Never stayed right by the station but Roxbourough (opposite end of Princess St) is nice, as is Holyrood - by the Parliament, Caledonian too - these are all probably at the pricey end but it depends...

use HDMI or component leads through a freeview/sky etc box and NTSC/PAL is not an issue. My Sony is dual voltage so that wasnt an issue either

we just brought back garden stuff no probs but our container wasnt opened - should be OK

Xbox and Wii will work - will only play games you bought in Canada/US

Not sure about the washing machine...

you dont need the british consular birth certificate to get the passport - once you have the passport why do you need the certificate?

BTW I assume you are permanently moving to the UK - if its only a visit then she doesnt need a passport or visa - just fill out the landing card

we are just about to sell our place in Vicars Cross to buy in Edinburgh - at least the prices are dropping in both areas so the loss is relative and there are some bargains to be had at the buying...

we got a US passport in less than a week non expedited. You dont both have to go the post office of passport center - you can get a form notarized. You will be fine entering the UK on the UK...

I dont know your circumstances and it isnt easy from the US but there are still 6% rates available in the UK if you dont mind locking in. Of course you may have been on 12 before!
