Has anyone else actually tried to close their Barclays accounts as they've asked? I've moved all the money out so the balances are zero, and then tried to close them online. Apparently can't do it...

I believe that you could reduce that charge significantly using Wise, probably to about $5 a month if I’ve understood your situation correctly. I am assuming that you receive about $1,200 per month...

I'm pretty sure I could redirect pensions directly to my Aussie account, but I'm assuming that there'd be hefty fees at this end & I'm too tight for that :lol:. Presumably Wise would be cheaper.

Just been through exactly this. Sold a house in the UK that we’d been renting out since 1995 when we bought it as an investment. Moved here in 2002 and continued renting it out until last year....

Just got the same letter. I've been expecting it for a few years. I already have a Wise account so I'll probably try to get it paid into that. They give you a UK Sort Code and BSB number so it should...
