Default Expat Death Notifications

Not sure if anyone can help. My father recently passed away after living in Australia since 2001. I too live in Oz.

Until his death he was in receipt of some small pensions from the UK including the UK state pension, and a couple of others. I have a letter addressed to him from the Inland Revenue (as was) dated 2004, stating that he was exempt from UK income tax under the Double Taxation agreement with Australia. His pensions were paid to him with no UK tax deducted, and as far as I know his circumstances wouldn't have changed since that time, except for a small variance in the amount he would have received. He has no assets in the UK.

As the executor of his estate, am I supposed to contact HMRC to notify of his passing?

Thanks for any help.

I decided to just send them a letter notifying of his death. We'll see what they come back with if anything.

I should imagine they would like a copy of the death certificate and any probate certificate (if that is a thing in Australia) the same as any Australian entity would require to wind up his affairs. If you are unsure what an executor of a will should do (I assume you are it) then seek advice.
