Re: My desire to move back is growing stronger...

Why not? One can always make a trip, I dont want to discourage anyone from visiting anywhere. Visiting and living in a place are two different things. Berlin/eastern Germany is a great place to...

Re: My desire to move back is growing stronger...

I think the Berlin hype was and is still mainly from the 20-somethings. People older than that and who have "been there and done that" see through it.

The rudery in Berlin I also objected to and...

Re: My desire to move back is growing stronger...

Hi fungled

don't have a great deal of time right now, but what especially stands out about your posts:

What I do want is to settle somewhere that, love it or leave it, is good enough until I...

Hi Fungled,

I read your post because a) you said you were living in Germany, which is where I also live, and b) it was very long and this made me curious as to what it was all about.

Reading...

Re: Moving back to the UK

hi, thing is most of these "experts" want to sell you something, which is not necessarily what you are looking for. The advice they might give comes secondary to the selling.

I think you can...

Re: Moving Back to UK From Germany

As I understand the IR35 came about (they have been talking about this for a good 20 years if I recall correct) because of people in UK paying themselves mainly in dividends from their instant set-up...

Re: Moving Back to UK From Germany

Indeed, I've heard about Spain and the taxes freelancers have to pay there, and all the Gestor stuff. Italy is also bad.

On the whole I like Germany, but I am realizing there are limits to it....

Re: Moving Back to UK From Germany

Well opportunities for people depend on economic growth and having a dynamic pro-enterprise economy.

I cannot call the economy of France for example dynamic. Nor Germany's either for that matter....

Re: Moving Back to UK From Germany

Good point, and I can imagine it. Seems that in UK, like in US, you have to be very selective about which district you move to. Unlike in Germany, in US/UK it all comes down to the district. Live on...

Re: Moving Back to UK From Germany

That would be a gross exaggeration. There are still English cities with no proper public transport infra, eg Leeds and Bristol, just buses.

But even some places like Croydon now have a great tram...

Re: Moving Back to UK From Germany

Yes I've heard about France. Ironically it is harder for IT freelance contractors in UK than in Germany. You have to go through a management company (same in NL and Switzerland). Or else have your...

Trouble with the German health system is that it is...
