Re: International Driving License

We bought our tickets!

Well, here we are. After about 2 years of "should we/shouldn't we?" conversations, we've sold our house in Texas (close on June 9), got my hubby's visa, opened a bank account with HSBC so we can...

Re: Cash out US 401K before I leave?

Because the immigration attorney who is assisting us, told us that at that time, that was the only option for us to pull that amount of $$ quickly enough.

It's kinda moot, as we will need that...

I don't know - I actually wan't aware this point was under discussion. It certainly wasn't my original question, I mentioned it only in passing and am now regretting it :(

Last September, when we...

Re: Cash out US 401K before I leave?

Our immigration attorney would beg to differ :-)

You cannot use retirement assets unless you are over a certain age - which we are not.

I believe the rules have changed (within the last 6...

Re: Cash out US 401K before I leave?

It's just called the (insert company name) retirement plan.

Wouldn't have a clue what the IRS code is - sorry..... but it's run entirely in-house (I work for a mutual fund company). May be close...

Re: Cash out US 401K before I leave?

Yep - definitely another option. I really don't *need* this money right now, I'm just trying to make smart-ish decisions while I have the chance.... I don't want to decide a year from now that I want...

Re: Cash out US 401K before I leave?

My employer put a percentage of my total annual earnings into the account every year. It's part of my package.

(If it's confusing you, then to call it a 401K might be little misleading - but it's...

Smile Re: FBAR and UK Retirement Plans - confused

[QUOTE=nun;10647939]The IRS are not experts in foreign accounts. The description of your account as a "Personal Pension Plan" makes me a bit nervous. How was it funded? What does the statement say?...

Re: FBAR and UK Retirement Plans - confused

Yep, have a shortlist of local firms all ready to start making calls tomorrow. As we're in the middle of trying to get *back* to the UK, we're going to need someone to assist us in the future anyway....
