Re: Wol's house build

Yeah, I think I was in Windsor at the time of that massive heat wave in Canada back in August where they set record highs for a lot of the province. Transitioning from summer in NA to winter in...

Re: Wol's house build

I wasn't disagreeing that poorly insulated houses feel a lot colder even in more temperate climates. I have the same problem here in the US where in the winter we're typically in the 5-10C range...

Re: Wol's house build

Don't confuse two different R-unit measurements. R-30 in Canada uses the non-SI method of measuring insulation factors while in Australia they use the international standard (SI) insulation factors,...

Re: Sydney Accord?

Hi Jen,

If your husband applied under the Sydney accord with IEAUST then he needs to be sure that his qualifications came from a recognised accredited Engineering Technologist program in the UK....

Re: Points Award - Worried - Pls Hlp

Not sure I understand the question... if you get 120 points and DIMIA agrees with you the you will be OK. #3 is the potential problem area as sometimes people's experience is not viewed by DIMIA as...

Re: 139 validation requirements

As Peter says, so long as you are the main applicant you can enter Australia prior to the rest of your family so long as you all enter at least once prior to the initial entry date on the visa. The...

Re: Initial Entry...

Initial entry (or validation) of your visa only requires that you physically enter the country. There is no time limit or requirement to bring any specific amount of money with you. You can enter for...

Re: US Police checks

That's exactly what I did with ours and they came back in about 3 weeks, which was ahead of the date I wrote on the envelope. If you don't ask for a specific timeline I think they say that they shoot...

Re: Great Ocean Road - staying with a baby

I would highly recommend Port Fairy - my brother booked us a 5 bedroom house (9 of us total with 5 kids) right across from the "swim beach" and it was very nice. They provided cots and high chairs...

Re: Migration under Skilled category

If I were to guess (and that's what it would be!) I would say that your chances with 115 points would be pretty much 0, and no, the points requirements has been going up rather than down in recent...

Re: Form 40 (sponsorship) question

Don't worry about it - I was in the same boat and did just as others have, which is have the sponsor sign the back page and copy over everything else yourself. My brother initially filled in the...

Re: Visa Subclass 136 Expiry in 2008

As long as you validated your visa within the time limit set by DIMIA (usually within 12 months of your medical or police checks, whichever were earliest) then you have until the expiry date on the...

Re: Visa Type 496

Yes you can apply for a 496 as first cousin is a valid relationship allowed to sponsor people on that visa type (not valid for 138 type visas though). As others have mentioned the "skilled person"...

Re: no of points req at moment

All of this is very clearly explained in Booklet 6 on the DIMIA web page. Read it closely and many of your questions will be answered. Also, the booklet is far more reliable than advice you receive...

Re: US to OZ

Hi Tical,

Good to hear you got your US citizenship - I am in exactly the same boat. I got my Oz PR in July of 2005, validated in Feb 2006 and took the citizenship oath in March 2006. I was never...

Re: 138 or 496

Hi Karen,

The real issue is whether you can make the pass mark required for the 138, which is 110 points. If you can't then you will be looking at the 496 or maybe something like a SIR visa, both...

Re: Assurance of Support/138

No, I'm long done - visa granted back last July (2005). We validated our visas in Feb 2006, although now not sure what the long term plan is. Like some others, things change while the visa is in...

Re: Assurance of Support/138

At the time my brother (my sponsor/assurer) had a long wait to get into CentreLink. Somthing like a 9 week wait for an appointment! It's improved now, but I did mine shortly after they switch from...

Re: Assurance of Support/138

Yes, the AoS is requested later in the process, usually in line with the request for medicals and PCCs. The AoS is 2 steps:

1) The assurer must attend an interview at CentreLink and bring along...

Re: When do they ask for bond?

No problem, and in fact if you have 125 points then the investment bond should not be required. If you are going for a 138 then the pass mark is only 110 points, so you have plenty of points to...

Re: When do they ask for bond?

There could be a bit of confusion here - there are 2 "bond" types in immigration, one is the $100K bond (australian "investment") which gets you 5 bonus points on a 47SK application, and the other is...

Re: AoS & Sponsorship

I'm not sure what method you should use. I assume that there should be some way of doing a direct money wire to her bank, but you might be better off asking your own bank what mechanisms they have...

Re: Skille designated Area sponsered and working anywhere

Depends when you applied - if before July 1st 2006 then you will have applied for a 139 PR visa which allows you to live and work anywhere in Australia forever. If you applied after July 1st 2006...

Re: Agents - 496 Query - Does anyone know?

You should definitely wait on a response from DIMIA, but I personally agree with Westly on this one - ie: you are OK!

The new form is more straight-forward or more confusing depending on how you...
