Re: Moving to Orange County from London

If helpful I was on $150k in NYC for a period and took home about $7750 every month. Once you've factored in your healthcare premiums you might be better thinking about a round $8k as a budgetting...

Re: Moving to Orange County from London

If I ever wanted to shock guests I'd show them the cost of toilet roll. Which is doubly impactful because it's not even good toilet roll, and it's $15 for 4 rolls or something mad like that.

Re: Moving to Orange County from London

I'm not sure taxes are that much meaningfully lower in states like CA and NY once you factor in state and local taxes. Bills and living expenses vary. The cost of groceries in NYC was a shock. $5 for...

Re: Moving to Orange County from London

I would temper your expectations about it being a significant salary increase. £70k to $155k is probably about equivalent Quality of Life and spending power in LA. It's more of a salary match than an...

Re: Moving to Orange County from London

$155k sounds quite low for a consultant.

How many years experience do you have and what was your salary in the UK?

My wife and I and our young son returned to the UK after 5 years in the US in March of 2022.

My wife closed...

Re: Returning UK Expat: Can my child enter UK on AU passport?

Our family had the exact same situation albeit our son was born in the US and was a US citizen by birth and a UK citizen by descent.

Getting his British Passport from the US was proving to be a...

Re: Salary Comparison - London to New York

You'd probably cry if you saw the apartment. It was a very weird little place that didn't have a proper kitchen and a bathroom that hadn't been renovated since the 70s. But for those prices and the...

Re: Salary Comparison - London to New York

Hope this helps. This was my wife and I's combined HH income and rent at different stages and how it felt. I moved on an L2 and then ultimately switched to an L1B in 2019.

2016 £110k Rent...

Re: London to Chicago relocating 1 year

Please tell me they are also giving you a pay bump and not just giving you your GBP salary converted plus £2k?

Re: Moving to the Bay area - need help with public school minefield!

This is a worry. Some relocation assistance would be the bare minimum you should expect for an international move. Are they upping your husbands salary to reflect the move?

Re: Dual Driving Licences

I didn't spend much time checking the legalities, but I kept my UK license with my old UK address even after I'd obtained my New York State drivers license. When I returned to the UK i simply renewed...

Hello,

My wife and I are UK citizens who left the USA in February 2022.

When we lived in the USA I prepared our taxes myself using TurboTax, but given the added complexity of having left the...

Re: Advice for future B2 retirement visa for Florida

Just a quick correction for you.

The strain on the NHS is almost entirely attributable to an ageing population for whom the successive and largely Tory governments have not adequately funded...

Re: Wedding insurance - US Residents, UK Wedding

My wife and I were in exactly the same position and got wedding insurance through John Lewis. It necessitated a phone call but they did it for us.

Re: Infant passport/Urgent Travel

If your flight isn’t until June 10th you probably have time to get an American passport before you travel.

My sons only took 6 weeks from application to passport in hand.

Re: Looking for a nice wee school in Scotland

Dunblane is very popular for people looking to commute to both Edinburgh and Glasgow and it's easy to jump in the car and head north into the highlands. Schools are very good too.

Re: Returning to the UK with newborn

I should probably add that the officer concerned seemed to have just started his shift and was in a very good mood. So that might have helped.

Re: Global Entry and L1 Visa - wrong i94

I supposed it's the same as if you'd been admitted...
