Thanks, I found the old passport and it expired in March 2001. I also found this beta site that allows you to lodge an application so will try it tonight...

I would recommend they make enquiries with the UK Tax before they leave after our experience. They won't be able to fill all the forms in as I believe they will require an Australian tax file number...

Dad went into Centrelink & they confirmed the letter had been sent by mistake. Apparently they just sent the letter to all Senior card holders.

I meant CGT on the dividend, do you mean that if you recieve a 100% franked dividend you still have to pay CGT? I thought not as the company had already payed tax at the company rate.

I would imagine banking institutions are obliged to provide ATO with details of interest earned, after all they have your Tax file number or you would have been already taxed at source. I would not...
