Default Australian Petrol (& other) fuel Price Update...

With petrol prices changing on a day to day basis over here, I thought it would be a good idea to keep tabs price trends and where to buy cheaper, if possible.

So update with the current Oz petrol price where you are.

I filled up yesterday at $1.529 for unleaded.

Note Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane have recently explicitly been bought into sync, the levels might be slightly different, but the max and min points have been tied together.

Also, the low part of this cycle will probably be under 130, so don't buy till you see the whites of their eyes.

I got petrol this morning, 115.9 with discount coupons, in the very downmarket suburb of Nambour. ( love the retro/hipster shops there)

Just 13 klms back near the beach it was 1.47 with discount, same company, just different location.

Same happens in Brisvegas, in the less ritzy suburbs it often 1.29 when its 1.53 at the beach.

They simply figure tourists will pay more.

B20 bio-diesel was 141.9 this morning

The price of diesel does not change daily like ULP

In WA we have: FuelWatch - Home which enables you to track whre the cheapest fuel is today and tomorrow

It is a great resource

Nobody has yet managed to explain to me why Australia has this ridiculous price cycle whereas other countries manage without it.

Prices have been steadier recently. Paid 114.5 with discounts on Friday, and still around the same price today (think I saw 128.2 without discounts). Costco's opened a petrol station in the Northern Suburbs and they've stated that they are not going to follow the price cycles so that ay help

It extracts excess profits from the commuter class. That's why the cycle time has lengthened - to ensure you HAVE to buy at points when the prices is at 20c margins. Cycles defeat real competition in markets where margins would get squeezed otherwise.

It used to be just the cheap Tuesdays, where many things were discounted on a Tuesday. Pizza, petrol etc, but it went way out of wack !!

Seems like we are getting ripped in QLD.

Some BPs I see are like 159.9/L inner city.
