Re: NZ + UK ( Total state pension)

One thing that I am wondering about (prompted by the posters on here from time to time) is what happens after you retire and you move from the UK to NZ (or vice versa).
Are you locked into the...

Brand new resident!

We are now officially NZ Residents (just not permanent).

A big shout out for the automated systems.
We applied for IRD numbers and as new arrivals we just authorised the use of the identity...

Re: Where does the year to enter NZ start from?

For our Resident visas the start date was the date of the granting of the visa, as shown in the email.
Our also had a specific note of when we had to be in NZ to activate the visas.
I assume this...

Flight disruption in Nelson - is this common?

There have been news items over the last few days about flights being disrupted in and out of Nelson because of fog and/or low cloud.
Is this a common thing?
We are planning to fly to Nelson and...

Aurora alerts

A very strong 9/9 alert reported at the moment.
Very high chance of visible aurora.
Shame it is daylight now in NZ.

Re: Moving Back to the Uk

It is worth checking if you have a full NZ pension which will be payable in the UK, and if it is index linked.

Probably also worth checking how many years of NI contributions you have in the UK...

Re: Current weather and quakes in NZ. All OK?

See you've got some rain warnings up around Nelson.
Is this a usual summer or a damp one?

Re: Feb: Dunedin - a little bit South

We will be on SI for a couple of weeks February/March time.
Flying in and out of Nelson and going up to Golden Bay.
Be a shame if you are in Dunedin and we don't get the chance to finally say...

Re: Car hire for 78 year old

RaD car hire (used to be Rent a Dent) have done us well in the past.
Going to book with them again this coming February and March 2024.
Pro -tip - take out a car hire excess policy for around £55...

Re: Return to NZ before 21 months GST issue

I think the first and most important question is "do you still have the receipts?".
I am assuming that if you can demonstrate that you have already paid GST you have an argument against paying it...

Re: Preparing to move.

Noting, of course, that his partner has a Psychology degree and currently works remotely, so that is another possible route to a work visa.

Re: Preparing to move.

Our child raising days are long gone.
However if a 50 house village is too large then there aren't going to be that many kids around for after school activities unless you are very lucky.
You would...

Re: Insurancers - House - contents - car.

On car insurance AFAIK you need to cover cost of repair/replacement to your vehicle, cost of repair/replacement to any other vehicle involved.
Or is this one of the special NZ cases where you are...

Re: Insurancers - House - contents - car.

I'm not sure I fully understand your point.
If you under insure then no claim will be met in full.
If your house is wiped out then you will have to pay part of the cost of the rebuild.
If the...

Re: Insurancers - House - contents - car.

That isn't quite how it works in the UK.
If you insure for £250k and the rebuild value (assessed by the insurance company) is £350k then you are under insured and any pay out on claim will be...

Re: Insurancers - House - contents - car.

Same problem in the UK at the moment.
There is legislation which says you can't charge renewals at a worse rate than new policies, but everything is going up.
There is raging inflation.

In the...

Re: You can apparently ask for visa conditions to be cancelled

I'm not suggesting that you can have the Section 49 (1) conditions removed before you meet any other conditions.
The implication seems to be that if you fulfil all the requirements for residence (as...

Re: You can apparently ask for visa conditions to be cancelled

The quote seemed to address the visa we have.
10 year Parent Resident.
I am being vary careful to protect my sources but I am pretty confident in the advice received.

Re: Parent Resident Visa - 10 years of Resident (but not Permanent Resident)

Update:
A little birdie told me that the 10 year visa was a direct result of all the mayhem around Covid, where people were unable to fulfil the requirements of their 5 year visa due to being locked...

Re: You can apparently ask for visa conditions to be cancelled

I'm afraid I can't decode the IRRV acronym.
[Is it indefinite leave to remain?]

For Parent Resident you get a 10 year Resident Visa (with no travel restrictions) but not a Permanent Resident Visa...

I have a reasonable level of trust in the source.

I am assuming that this is entirely discretionary,...

Re: Where do the Brits like to live in Auckland?

When we were over in 1987 at a camp site in Rotorua we met some lovely NZ ladies.
I said we were from the UK.
Really, they said, but you don't have an accent!
Make of that what you will! :p
