Re: going back for a visit

Just came here to post about this because a Kiwi friend who has dual nationality has just come up against this.
The price quoted seems a lot more than UK based renewal for UK citizen.
I will now go...

Re: going back for a visit

So far nobody has mentioned Low Emission Zones (LEZ).
Something to beware of if travelling to city centres.
Hire cars should be up to the latest standards, but you don't want to get a surprise...

Re: UK vans not legal in NZ

Can you please explain the issue with suspension control?
I had a quick Internet search but couldn't find anything obvious which would prevent a UK specification vehicle being imported to NZ.

Re: Is everyone leaving? Very quiet here.

I noted that nearly all the new arrivals were settling in Auckland, which suggests that most of the country is losing population.
Perhaps a dip in housing prices might encourage people to stay, move...

Is everyone leaving? Very quiet here.

Record departure numbers (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/may/09/leaving-new-zealand-record-departure-numbers)

Just reminds me that after all our efforts to get visas, NZ isn't the country...

Re: UK Pensions - Updated 2025/26

Thank you for the comprehensive update.
The whole area looks a minefield.
Of course, the UK Labour Government may have more plans to limit pension transfer in the pipeline.
They seem to like...

Re: Import Camper 'Conversion' to NZ advice

I would imagine that would cancel any type approval.

A bit late for him (and at least one other poster) but people proposing to import vehicles should really check that they are legal in NZ before...

Would that be because it was Left Hand Drive?

Re: Moving with Older children (16 and 18)

Have you extensive experience of children who went to boarding school?
And that it did them no harm at all?
That is - citation needed!

Having been to a boarding school (but thankfully not as a...

Re: Import Camper 'Conversion' to NZ advice

A while since I looked at this but I recall that the camper had to be type approved through the converter.
So if you have, say, a Hymer motorhome then that will have type approval.
If you build it...

Re: Brand new resident!

Possibly further information needed.
What do you hope to use the bank account for before you arrive in NZ?

Re: Brand new resident!

We hadn't tried because we saw no need for one.
On our trips to NZ we have been fine with our UK bank and credit cards.
I don't know how easy it is to open an account using non NZ ID.

Re: Will my qualifications be enough?? No one can give me a straight answer

Sorry that it appears that your qualifications aren't enough for the NZ job of your choice.
Does anyone else in the "we" have enough qualifications to get a visa?

Failing that you may have to...

Re: Will my qualifications be enough?? No one can give me a straight answer

Assuming ECE is Early Childhood Education; at first glance it looks as though your degree won't match your hoped for job.
Also, QTS is seen as highly desirable in the UK and for some roles it is...

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

It is less than a week away, so hopefully not too early to post.
We are spending Christmas at Chatsworth House.
Well, in the grounds really.
In our camper.
Have a good one, everyone!

Re: Possible move to auckland - help

Have you sorted your budget out yet?
safe, good schools, things to do, affordable - pick any 3?
The nicer parts of Auckland can be very expensive.

NZeTA - not needed for residents?

I've just received an email saying that my NZeTA will run out in a couple of months.

Now I have a Resident visa as far as I know I no longer need one.

I've checked, and the validity is 2 years...

Re: Visa activation date - just checking

Complete change.
Everything we learned in the long process from 2016 no longer seems to apply.

Someone with connections to the system told us that this was because of the mess caused by the Covid...

My Resident thread (https://britishexpats.com/forum/immigration-citizenship-visas-nz-108/brand-new-resident-950782/)

Just a link to a thread I posted when we got our Residency, in case that helps.

Re: Visa activation date - just checking

We have recently (in the last year) obtained NZ Residency.
The only requirement is that you visit NZ within a year from the visa being granted.
At that point you are a Resident (but not a Permanent...

Re: NZ + UK ( Total state pension)

One thing that I am wondering about (prompted by the posters on here from time to time) is what happens after you retire and you move from the UK to NZ (or vice versa).
Are you locked into the...

Re: Where does the year to enter NZ start from?

For our Resident visas the start date was the date of the granting of the visa, as shown in the email.
Our also had a specific note of when we had to be in NZ to activate the visas.
I assume this...
