Re: Review of Vancouver after 18 months

Re the Christmas Market. My guess is that they charge an entrance fee because the plaza is run by BC Pavilion Corp, a Crown Corp. The Plaza is rented out for events, hence a fee.
The Christmas...

Re: The cheese and wine whine!

From what I understand, fresh milk from the USA has to follow our standards, meaning it can not contain BGH ( bovine growth hormone ) which the vast majority of US fresh milk does.

Re: The cheese and wine whine!

I didn't miss it. Again, those are PERSONAL exemptions. In your link for importers, I don't see a ban on clotted cream from the UK. As said, I can buy it at my local shop.

Re: The cheese and wine whine!

Those are personal exemptions, not import restrictions. I can buy clotted cream/Devonshire Cream at my grocery store. I just can't bring any into Canada myself.

Re: London vs Vancouver

The photos you have seen are are mostly of the downtown peninsula, incorporating the neighbourhoods of the West End, Coal Harbour, Gastown and Yaletown. Within these neighbourhoods many of the towers...

Re: Mortgages in Montreal capped at 10 years?

I would start by visiting one of the banks. Make an appointment. They will figure out what you can afford.
The faster you pay off your mortgage of course, the better. Look for things like ...

Re: what am I missing?

I had to laugh at the highlighted part, considering it was Scottish and British settler/immigrants that named those places in Canada. There is no plot to fool people.

Re: North Shore Curry alert

Chinese people living in Canada find it offensive. That should be enough reason for people here not to use it.

Re: North Shore Curry alert

Putting the political correctness argument aside, the fact is, that in Canada, that word is considered offensive and racist.
You aren't in the UK.

As someone pointed out, try saying that in...

Odd situation to be in. Glad you got it resolved. I wouldn't let it put you off from using debit. I've been using debit cards ever since Interac and debit cards came into existence and have never had...

Re: Two things that really piss me off

That's a given, but I don't believe that is what we are talking about here.
Someone " forcing " someone to give up their right of way, is not safe driving.

Re: Two things that really piss me off

Well in my books, that is a dangerous manoeuvre. Forcing another vehicle to behave differently, especially when you do not have the right of way, is dangerous.
As frustrating as it is, and I know...

Re: Two things that really piss me off

Per this link Canada has 6.8 deaths per 100,000
The UK is 3.7 per 100,000

Re: The cheese and wine whine!

The best cheesemakers don't cheat. I avoid any cheese that lists
" modified milk " as an ingredient.

Re: The cheese and wine whine!

A high end grocery store here sells Blue Stilton for $5.50 CDN or so per 100 grams. You may find it cheaper....but hard to say. Cheese is considered expensive here, and for the most part is. Even...
