Re: €385 Deductible?

What a coincidence. That same video was recommended to me by YouTube today. That 385 Euro deductible is an annual deductible. However, there are insurance companies that offer an insurance with...

Re: JPJ: Driving License and Vehicle Registration as foreigner in Malaysia

I have had similar issues with JPJ regarding the registration of my car. Currently my car is registered on my passport number. So if my passport number changes I have to update the "pink slip"...

Re: Freezing Joint Bank Accounts on death of husband

The risk (?) is that somebody else informs the bank. You can control what you tell your bank. But you can't control what others will tell.

Re: Freezing Joint Bank Accounts on death of husband

Indeed, that is also what I have been told. There will be some delay, caused by the review and acceptance of the local will. However, that delay is much shorter than when an "overseas will" needs to...

Re: Freezing Joint Bank Accounts on death of husband

The best advice I heard was to "empty your bank accounts the day before you pass away." (or live forever)

Re: Freezing Joint Bank Accounts on death of husband

Yes, this is correct. It is one of the most frequently heard reasons for expats to draw up a "local last will" to specify that the Malaysian bank account(s) goes to the wife in case the husband...

Re: Stay in Malaysia for 6 months

1) Correct.
2) A tourist visa can indeed not be extended. There are no hard rules for when a visa run is accepted. I have heard people say that "if you stay out of Malaysia for at least one week...

Re: This coming winter in Thailand

Before anything else you would need to investigate what your visa options are. Those options depend on your nationality, intended duration of stay, and what you plan to do while in Thailand. Tourist...

Re: Jobs in The Netherlands for English speakers

Tiny correction: WO is the university level, VWO denotes the middle school level (12 ~ 18 yo) that gets you into WO.
WO = Wetenschappelijk Onderwijs
VWO = Voorbereidend Wetenschappelijk Onderwijs

Re: Transfer large sums to philippines?

Is it a rule to pay the 200 k in one shot? If the seller allows you could pay in eight daily installments of 25 k.

Re: Is a TransferWise exchange a 'Remittance'?

Re: Is a TransferWise exchange a 'Remittance'?

A Wise account is a multi-currency account. Each currency you hold in that account is "parked" at a bank in the country of said currency. For example: if you hold USD and EUR and MYR in your Wise...

The LHDN document which you refer to in that other thread answers your question in this thread. That document contains several examples. Please go to example 8. It shows an example of a person who...

Re: E-Gate entry to Malaysia for expats

I must have been lucky when I arrived one week ago at KLIA: there was only one person in front of me at the Diplomat/MM2H counter. The waiting time was minimal.

Re: Citizenship for children born to Malaysian mothers outside Malaysia

Ah, yes. I had forgotten about that. But it would be an easy way if they wanted to become Malaysian and rescind their current nationality. To be clear: I would not do so if I had the choice.

Re: Citizenship for children born to Malaysian mothers outside Malaysia

Why do you think so? The article mentions that the new law will apply to everyone who has a Malaysian father or mother. Not only to newborn babies, born after the law gets modified:

Re: What is happening in Bali (especially in Sanur)?

You are correct about the 90 day tourist visa. But I don't know where you got that second part of your statement from. Malaysia relaunched their MM2H "retirement visa" program last year, under new...

I second this. The thread has gradually deviated from its title, and moved to a subject which was already covered, albeit under another title.
The reason why I posted my message yesterday in this...
