Re: FBAR and $10.000

Oh sorry - was being dumb and didn't think it through. To reiterate:

You could have $50k income come in throughout the year, but as long as there was never a combined sum of $10k at one time in...

Re: FBAR and $10.000

phew, that's a relief. Haven't thought about FBAR's in a long time. Had to reacquaint myself with all these rules.

Re: FBAR and $10.000

Private pensions only though, right?

As far as I know, the state pension isn't reportable:

Re: FBAR and $10.000

Sum of all accounts you mean?

I think I remember reading once that if you had $9990 in one account and $20 on an oyster card, you would have to file.

FBAR and $10.000

Hey all, quick question surrounding FBAR as one of my UK coworkers was asking, and I want to make sure what I said is accurate.

So I told them if you have 3 UK accounts, you would have to add...

Re: Student Loans - Global taxation?

Makes sense! Not sure why I thought I'd have to do self assessment taxes as this is not income.

I think sometimes I worry I missed something obvious when I moved away from the UK haha -...

Re: Student Loans - Global taxation?

I have been asking that for years! Most tell me I can't. It seems to be in the wording of "qualified"

I don't see a reason why I would have to file UK self assessment tax forms still

Re: Student Loans - Global taxation?

Thanks! Yeah, I did take a look around there (plus finding out I only have 7 months of payments left!) and couldn't find the word "tax" anywhere.

I just want to make sure I don't need to be...

Student Loans - Global taxation?

Hey all!

I was just discussing the complexities of global taxation with my US friend. I was claiming that the UK bases tax off of residency and they claimed to refute that based on student loans....

Re: Family emergency travel: 2 passports, 2 names

Thanks everyone for their thoughtful responses.

I always thought it was illegal to enter the UK as a UK citizen without showing your UK passport? Misrepresenting yourself or something?

We will...

Family emergency travel: 2 passports, 2 names

Hey all,

My wife and I are both duel citizens of the US and UK and we just got the terrible news that my mother (who lives in the UK with my father) unexpectedly passed away today.

We are...

Re: Green Card to Citizenship....any downsides??

Wait - so the UK is gonna introduce something like FACTA?

Would it be for tax residents (like current UK taxes) or citizens (like the US)?

Re: closing US bank account - good idea?

I assume you closed as many non US accounts as you could so you didn't have to keep track when listing them on the FBAR?

I kept my UK HSBC current account when moving here and it currently has a...

Re: Domicile confusion

Thanks for the link - that actually makes it quite easy to understand, but obviously these are ultimately decided by law, and as long as these points are demonstrated, it doesn't look like any...

Re: Domicile confusion

Well, that's interesting and good to know.

For me, I have no home in the UK (my parents and brother still live there), so I guess it still has no effect on my not needing to file/pay taxes in...

I am doing all the stuff in the next few weeks or so.

I assume the domicile thing didn't matter before getting citizenship too, right?

Re: UK Tax liability for PR

Alright! I'll go back to not filing anything then as I have no UK sourced income. I filed a P85 years ago. I guess the US is only one of a few countries that tax citizens regardless of residency....

Re: UK Tax liability for PR

I've never heard of a nil return. Are there other reasons someone would file one of those other than rental property? I have no UK sourced income, so there would be no need for me to file one of...

Hey! Quick question, if you had to file an FBAR or other FATCA forms, would you have to list XE trade as an account (if you met all the other requirements)?

I would assume no as it doesn't seem...

Re: Am I still a UK Resident (for tax purposes)?

It's worth checking out the SRT, because if you are not a UK resident, then there is no need to pay UK taxes unless it's UK sourced as far as I know. I don't think anyone here who is a UK citizen but...
