Re: UK Inheritance

Sounds good, for a one time transfer at least. I was pondering keeping the money over there but, that probably doesn't make any sense right?

Re: Taxes and LTD

Not a tax expert but I've been on LTD twice in the last few years... if the scheme is set up properly (and I understand they pretty much all are) it's set up to be tax free.

Re: UK Inheritance

Parkdale! All roads seem to lead there. Bit too vibrant for me in my dotage lol. Though the Kingston Road dive bars are no longer as cheap as they need to be.

The rhino is the big pub right?

UK Inheritance

Anyone recommend an accountant, ideally east GTA, who would be able to advise on how to avoid going wrong with a UK inheritance?

Re: Groceries

The petrol at Costco is an even better deal if you run on premium, as the price delta at Costco is about half of Mobil/ Shell. These days with WFH I don't find myself bothering to queue anymore.

Re: Canadian Pot Noodle

My local Freshco has pot noodles at $3 a pop! Quite the treat!

The Knorr Laksa ones are great but also $3 in Metro.

I actually quite like the Asian cup noodles too though.

Re: 220 devices for use of 110 volt?

I recall looking at a 220v stove plug to put on a nice soldering iron I'd brought over. Idea being I'd use the relatively accessible drier socket. The plug was like $40 alone so a new soldering iron...

Re: 220 devices for use of 110 volt?

I'd say not worth the effort. The 60Hz might throw the music system (its not just about the voltage).

As for the American 220 that's been debated to death here, someone has used it for a workshop...

Re: Brit food mail order

I buy British goodies local (Ontario) now. My favourite is Blighties in orangeville, they used to have pretty reasonable shipping (through summer I ride (motorcycle) out there and just running low on...

Re: Canadian whisky

The Elijah Craig small batch was like $10 off which is unusual for an LCBO offer, I think it was in the 40s, and I was pretty impressed. Didn't buy again because I wasn't in a sipping whisky mood and...

Re: Air Canada & Air Transat deal terminated

There were a lot more viable airlines back then... wonder what EasyJet would make of this route? Too far in their cramped planes?

Re: Air Canada & Air Transat deal terminated

Very true- how many airlines can Canada sustain? Transat may have been one too many. As long as Westjet keeps going on the trans-atlantic route...

Re: Canadian whisky

[QUOTE=JGK;12990573]I thought that if it was a true Scotch (made in Scotland) it was a Whisky. If it was from outside Scotland it was a Whiskey.

A lot of people will argue the toss about this...

Re: Canadian whisky

He's turned!!!

Bourbon is quite interesting, have you tried the Elijah Craig? Quite a different flavour to scotch. And no cheaper.

I found an excellent 100% Rye from Alberta, tall skinny...

Re: Canadian whisky

That EU-Canada trade deal included Canada applying the "protected" status to food and drink, which could be another reason this dispute seems late- a few years ago there might not have been much...
