the house was left for 6 months last winter, but was lived in prior to that. And yes we do have those slabs around...

Damp proofing- using metal sheets in external walls

Has anyone heard of the method of stainless steel sheets being hammered into the external walls of an old house to stop damp from coming into the walls? We have had a tradesman visit our house today...

Oh and to add we had double glazing fitted in our house in the 90's so we will be mindful of ventilation and we also have carbon monoxide detectors in the house.

Thanks for the tips Peter, how long do you need to run it at maximum before shutting all the vents? Were used to a small stove that you keep topping up all day so it's totally new for us.

We have a large tiled stove in our house, the ones that are almost the height of a room and tiled all over, just wondering what we need to do before winter comes other than checking if smoke draws...

thanks - the price is to plaster over some white insulation tiles (skim them) which go on one wall in the kitchen, up the stairs on one side and one wall in the bedroom and to paint all the door...

We have been quoted a price of 120,000 forints to paint our apartment (about 56m2) and plaster 2 walls in Heviz. Does this sound reasonable - seems high to me?

We are looking to rent out our apartment to tourists in Heviz and need to register as self-employed persons (business).

I'm sure there are lots of other considerations too due to the bureaucracy...
