We are looking to rent out our apartment to tourists in Heviz and need to register as self-employed persons (business).

I'm sure there are lots of other considerations too due to the bureaucracy here and an accountant is vital to us doing everything properly.

If anyone has any recommendations for an accountant in the Heviz area who can be trusted and speaks some English, that would be appreciated.

Could you operate it as a UK based business? I know some people do that for some kinds of business but I don't know details on how it works.

I don't think you need to register as self employed persons to do tourist lets. You will need to register the property with the local council anyway and yes you need to find an accountant who knows about letting property to tourists to know the best way to do it within the current regs.

When we did tourist lets we did not have to register as self employed and the income was added on to our other income and there were tax concessions now have changed. There is also a whole basket of regs regarding the property which you will have to get to know.

Wouldn't it be easier all round to put them on AirBnB? Just a thought.

This would not negate the need to comply with the Hungarian regulations.

Once you are registered with the authorities here and have the tax situation sorted then how and where you advertise is your option.

You do not need to be self-employed, you just need to get a tax number.
Also for accounting, it is quite simple to do the paperwork, however the form is in Hungarian, so that is why you will need someone.
