To me it seems like your best approach is to find a global shipper or retailer that has localised shipping departments that has offices in the UK and the US who transfers people internationally.

Maybe it differs by state.

Problem will be is if OP is waiting it out in the UK they won't know if they have been called or not - they will need to ensure someone is checking their mail!

You know a lot of spouses of L1 visa holders!

I don't know anyone who came in on an L1 who needed biometrics - but everyone on an L2 who needed an EAD did have to go in.

HSBC only transfers your history to HSBC USA so they can give you a credit card straight away.

From the point of view of the rest of America you will still have no credit history - however...

You will be able to get a checking account and check book when you get here - but remember you won't have built a credit score or be able to get a US credit card til you have been here for 6-12...

If you happen to be HSBC Premier in the UK I would say go with HSBC - makes everything very easy and they give you a US credit card straight away! We had everything set up a month before we left the...

I have had anything from less than a week to up to a few months.

Yeah - cash flow. But it doesn't become profit til we sell - so cashflow is what matters to us at the moment.
