Re: Coronavirus

I think at the top of any country's to-do list during a pandemic would be 1) Keep the Prime Minister / President safe. 😀 Of course then there was Boris who famously went to a hospital and announced...

Re: Coronavirus

Yep. Nothing good is coming out of this pandemic. Soul destroying all round. Hundreds of thousands of families have lost loved ones, struggling to breathe and alone. I'd like to try and keep that...

Re: Coronavirus

I heard some expert say that it will take 2 weeks before we know what effect Auckland going down to Level 3 will have. Will the numbers go up, stay the same or maybe down if higher vaccination...

Re: Coronavirus

I'm reasonably optimistic that we won't see the level of tragedy that other countries have experienced, provided we can get to about 90% vaccination. I think we are already over 75% first jab for...

Re: Coronavirus

Yep. Early on New Zealand chose Pfizer because of the problems that Astra Zeneca were having with blood clots and because of a better effectiveness. From that point we were always going to be...

Re: Coronavirus

I agree. I think the govt has bowed to pressure from the likes of Mike Hosking. You'd think someone with covid is eventually going to hop on a plane in either direction. We are so close to the finish...

Re: Coronavirus

New Zealand's problem once we get going is going to be vaccine hesitancy. Through casual conversation there seems to be a lot of people who say they're not going to have it. There's also one of my...

Re: Vaccine - NZ strategy?

I am under the impression that the vaccine NZ will be using initially is 95% effective. I think that means it is good enough to take care of the virus before the person gets any symptoms, in 95% of...

Re: Making the move in 2021

Nobody knows, but I reckon NZ might not open it's borders this year. A lot possibly depends on the vaccine rollout and uptake. But that's just a hunch on my part.

Re: Coronavirus

Doctor Col. There will be a vaccine. There will be several different vaccines. That's what the real doctors are saying. It might not be 100% effective, but it should lead to much milder symptoms and...

Re: Coronavirus

With Bevs and Bo-jangles all the way on this.

Today someone said to me that the people most benefiting from these lockdowns is the Labour Party. I replied, NO, the people most benefiting from...

Re: Coronavirus - how's everyone doing?

The plan is to try and keep it out until a vaccine, which best estimates suggest is 12 months. Stamping it out early means being able to live normally, which we had been doing for more than 3 months...

Re: Coronavirus

Be patient. Vaccine trials are looking promising. There would be no worse scenario than letting the virus in, it leaving a couple of thousand dead, and then having a vaccine appear shortly after....

Re: Coronavirus

But the reason just 21 people died is because we went into lockdown. If there was no lockdown we would be like a lot of other countries. Our deaths would be in the 1000s. The net gain of lockdown is...

Re: 16 year old moving to NZ

Agree. There is so much uncertainty at the moment. What happens if Covid takes off further? She should be with her family in these uncertain times IMO.

Re: Coronavirus

Nup. I say don't take any chances. What would happen if we take our chances and lose. Then a few months down the track a vaccine, or life saving treatments arrive?

Re: Coronavirus

I can't see why we can't be patient and go along as we are until a vaccine. If we open borders more, that will obviously leave NZ more vulnerable. If community spread returns, that will do far more...

Re: Political posts from Coronavirus thread.

Not into covid 19 being a competition at all, but thought I'd pop this link in for those people here who seem to have a fascination with NZ's performance, and have roundly criticized it.

Re: Political posts from Coronavirus thread.

Wrong.

I have a compromised immune system. So if I was in a country where Covid 19 was let to run rampant, and those are usually countries that have put economy above people, I may be dead by now....

Re: Political posts from Coronavirus thread.

Your arguments sound like someone who's just brassed off with the fact a left leaning politician is succeeding and is willing to throw in conspiracy theories in order to prove your point. And she's...

Re: Political posts from Coronavirus thread.

New Zealand was even declaring cases in their stats when showing all the symptoms but testing negative. I don't think any other country did that so your argument doesn't hold water. The honesty and...

Do you really think people are that shallow? Humanity goes a long way as far as my voting patterns are concerned.
