Re: Is winter a crazy time to move and resettle?

You're missing the point. It's not individual doctors per se, it's the provincial bodies who represent doctors.

But, if you don't agree with the argument that it's protectionism, then please try...

Re: Is winter a crazy time to move and resettle?

Therein lies the conflict. Canada needs doctors, but the provincial bodies who represent doctors like things as they are. With limited supply and increasing demand, they can charge more for their...

Re: Is winter a crazy time to move and resettle?

A newly arrived doctor, and a newly qualified doctor, are not exactly the same thing.

Re: BC or NS ??

Just out of interest what wasn't there enough of? I'm planning on living in NS next year with a IEC visa and this issue about it being a boring province, at least when compared to vancouver, is...

Re: The Box.bz

Yes, although I found them not to be as harsh with ratio's etc as thebox.

Re: The Box.bz

I've noticed this also, but then a day later, it's back up again.
I think they're probably being harassed by lawyers, so they have to switch servers etc.
UKNOVA was taken down for this reason a...

Re: Is winter a crazy time to move and resettle?

Everyones experience will be different, and it will depend on where you're moving to.
We had friends who moved to Alberta in December when it was -40. For the wife in particular (SAHM) it completely...

Re: BC or NS ??

We moved from AB to NS two years ago, but we've decided to move back again.

NS is simply too small for us, and too expensive. There's not enough to do, and the taxes are crippling us.

A...

Re: Anyone moved provinces -BC to QC?

After a brief vacation in QC, visiting Quebec City and Montreal, I realised it's not a place I could live without being fully fluent in French.

Re: Toronto Shooting

It was obvious that the group of policemen who were there thought he did. You can see by the way they all jumped back when they saw he was still carrying the knife.... whilst still being told to drop...

Look at the latest videos etc- he was tazered because he was still holding the knife.

Re: Toronto Shooting

That's not reasonable at all. If the cop was on his own, in a darkened alley, with no witnesses... perhaps I'd agree. But he wasn't. He was surrounded by fellow cops, civilians, etc... so not, it's...

Re: Toronto Shooting

How many times was he hit?

Another question, was he on drugs- meth, etc? If so, 2 or 3 shots to the body might not work.

The answer to both of these questions is "we don't know".

Re: Toronto Shooting

The irony.
Yet, you're quick to jump on the behaviour of the policemen who responded to the incident without knowing anything about what happened, aside from some grainy youtube footage taken from...

Re: Toronto Shooting

I'm fortunate enough, as I suspect are most on here, never to have been in that situation. It's very easy to sit behind the comfort of a computer screen telling someone what they should or should not...

Re: Toronto Shooting

9 shots were fired, but as far as I know, there's no confirmation as to how many times the guy was hit. I would be amazed if he was hit more than 2 or 3 times.

As you've already mentioned, you...

Re: What do you like about Calgary??

I always thought the two cities were essentially the same, except Edmonton doesnt have Banff.
We're moving back to Calgary later this year, after some time in NS and Edmonton.

Re: Toronto Shooting

Well done, although I maintain that it isn't easy. However, hitting a target in practice is a lot different to hitting a target in the heat of the moment, with nerves, adrenaline, etc etc.
How many...

Re: Toronto Shooting

9 shots were fired, but how many hit the lad?
It's very difficult to hit someone when shooting from a handgun, even at close range, so this may explain the number of shots being heard.

After what...

Re: Cost of living...families

I'd agree with this. When we first started investigating Canada, housing was cheap here. It's not anymore. You'd be hard pushed to find many areas (where there's good employment etc) where property...
