Re: Welshman in Amsterdam - Seeking work

Most Dutch employers won't expect you to be fluent in Dutch, but they'll certainly expect you to speak a bit.

What level of Dutch do you need to work in the Netherlands?

I've heard mixed reports on this. Some say that you don't need anything more than basic Dutch to find work in the Netherlands, and that most employers are happy to employ non-Dutch speakers if you...

Re: Considering Canada or UK

That is a quote from the link you posting claiming that the vast majority of young Canadian immigrants to Australia are only there temporarily, and 89%claim they plan to return to Canada.

Re: Considering Canada or UK

What constitutes as living abroad in terms of Canadian statistics?

I'm sure there are many Canadians in the UK on working holiday visas, are they considered to be living abroad?

There's a big...

Re: Considering Canada or UK

Sounds very unlikely to be honest. Perhaps there are Canadians coming over on working holiday visas, but actually immigrating here permenantly? There's way more Brits in Canada, no doubt about it.

Re: Considering Canada or UK

Canada. No doubt. The UK really is not that great, and far more Brits move to Canada than Canadians moving to the UK. That's got to account for something.

Re: Considering Canada or UK

Proportionally, there are still far more Brits in Canada, than Canadians in the UK.

To keep it in proportion, if Canada's population was 60 million, then the population of Canadians in the UK...

Re: Considering Canada or UK

Canada is clearly more popular with Brits than the UK is with Canadians. That was my point.

It's hardly any suprise that the number of Brits living in Spain is 25% higher, considering Brits...

Re: Considering Canada or UK

Canadians in the UK: 82,000

British people in Canada: 603,000

There's about an equal number of Brits in Canada as there are in Spain, and signficantly more than in France or New Zealand.

Re: Considering Canada or UK

Yeah, because the US is better than the UK too if you've got ambition and a bit of go about you.

Re: Considering Canada or UK

Canada is much better than the UK. Cheaper prices, higher wages, a growing economy and cheaper land and property prices.

There's a reason why so many Brits immigrate to Canada and not vice versa....

Re: Very little information about Taiwan...

You're over-estimating the amount of people in Taiwan who can speak good English.

Yeah, educated graduates might speak it quite well, but most normal working class people like taxi drivers, bus...

Re: Is it worth moving back to London

I have found that most hotel recruitment programmes require a degree or some other form of higher education.

Without a degree, the only way is to start at the very bottom and hope you eventually...

Re: Is it worth moving back to London

I think you're forgetting that life in London is not very representative of life in the rest of the UK.

Yes, life in London might seem exiting, vibrant with plenty going on, but in the more normal...

Re: Amnesty (sort of)?

It never ceases to amaze me how the Spanish government can just bulldoze British properties based on the fact it was corrupt local officials and corrupt developers who were in the wrong, not the...

Re: Spain in a 'state of total emergency' ?

I don't see how the British can be blamed for Spain's problems at all. The British are mostly entirely self-suporting, rarely if ever take local jobs, don't claim benefits and many even have private...

Canada just like the US?

Canada is often sold as a safer, more liberal and more peaceful version of the US, but when you actually look into it, I find this questionable.

It seems in comparison to the UK, gun violence is...

Re: Spain in a 'state of total emergency' ?

So what you're saying is the Spanish are basically bigoted and dislike immigrants living in their country, even model immigrants like the British?

I agree, on the whole the Spanish are somewhat...

What is the reality of life as a British expat in Cyprus?

I've read that for the most part the Cypriots dislike the British a lot and blame them for a lot of their country's problems.

I've also heard that living in Cyprus as a British expat is difficult...
