Re: Property in France

Free and easy movement was lost due to Brexit. Still possible but very very difficult.

Re: Wifi

Because without a good strong mobile network signal to feed the device its a non-starter. And of course using it for full time TV viewing will gobble up data allowance quickly.

Re: House purchase

It is my understanding that you can specify your own notaire to handle your part of the transaction or you can use the same notaire as the seller. In such case, the notaires share the same fee...

Re: Internet fibre-optic connection difficulties

I also have the Nationwide card reader and feel confident it is a good system. Security codes for online payment systems and my French bank are becoming a pain.

Re: Internet fibre-optic connection difficulties

Thankyou for your response, but its not a solution. As I state above, there is no mobile network coverage here so a mobile phone is not the answer. The only way I can receive SMS codes at home is...

Re: Internet fibre-optic connection difficulties

I thank you for the link. I am with Sosh (Orange) at the moment. Plenty of offers for fibre if it ever arrives here but although the cable has been installed to a junction point across the road it...

Re: Internet fibre-optic connection difficulties

Our (copper fed) internet has been unreliable for years and when talk of fibre started to gain traction we were very interested, as long as the price doesn't go through the roof. We don't stream TV...

Re: Currency Exchange

The answer to your question is explained in my post #9 above. Myself, my wife, and a several acquaintances have met this brick wall, many of us have been using Transferwise/Wise for years and are...

Re: Currency Exchange

Update. I have decided to play safe and stick with bank to bank transfers, although expensive, there is no middle man to worry about.
My tirade of complaints thrust upon Wise did finally get...

Re: Currency Exchange

I guess the old saying "You get what you pay for" is appropriate here. My problem was that I am one of the dinosaurs that refuse to put my entire life on a smartphone so that was the first hurdle. ...

Re: French Immobilière. A warning

My experience of selling with a French agent was typically negative. I engaged a French agent, a local franchise of a national outfit to sell a low to middle priced house. Three months passed without...

Re: Currency Exchange

Very pleased to hear you managed to get there in the end. Wise worked very well and saved me money doing my transfers for many years but having recently spent five days battling with their chat bots...

Re: Currency Exchange

Thanks for the tip, a little late though. I just paid £15 for a transfer.
I had a look at Atlantic Money's site. All looking good until I get to the bottom "Get the App". I don't do...

Currency Exchange

I am giving up on Transferwise/Wise after losing a long term battle trying to get my account (Re-verified) after ten years as a customer.
Can anyone suggest a different company? I just want to...

Re: Dog Trainer - Alsace

Re: Dog Trainer - Alsace

My little fella came from a French rescue centre. His ex-owner was French. I speak very little French so the dog pretty much ignores me unless he's hungry.

Re: JO mania

I can't answer your question. Sports of any kind is of no interest to me but can you clear something up for me? What is the "J" in the JO? I assume the "O" is olympics.

Re: House purchase

A very important point is made in LVC's last sentence. In my 23 years of experience here you have two hurdles. The first is getting a trades person to actually turn up to estimate the work and the...

Re: House purchase

As Graham says, there are many things to consider.
The housing market in France has little in common with that in other countries. Houses do take longer to sell, often much longer. Literally...

Re: Hairy walls!

Good points by LVC above. A hard impermeable cement render is very bad for an old house without a damp course, whether inside or out. Coupled with poor ventilation as is often the case with holiday...
