Re: Moving to Palmy

Quick update...it's on, we're moving to Palmy.
Last week I told my boss and he's been a complete dick about it which had taken some of the shine off. (Apologies for naughty word)
Still, onwards and...

Re: Moving to Palmy

Thank you!
Yes, it hasn't been easy finding dog friendly rentals in Auckland, so we know we're in for a challenge. That's the hardest bit of moving, hoping the timings all work out and we don't end...

You know we could just stay here and coast along paying someone else's mortgage, or go out there and take a risk. Palmy here we come!!

Now,...

Re: Moving to Palmy

Thanks Genesis!
Exciting isn't a necessity. Just somewhere we can settle with a hope of buying our own place before we get too old!
I've driven myself crazy weighing up pros and cons of moving, but...

Re: haggling on rent...?

We're currently in our third rental since moving here with our two dogs.
It's definitely worth asking if there's any negotiation even if a property says no pets. Some landlords are concerned that...

Moving to Palmy

Hi everyone,
It's been a while, but would appreciate any advice.
We've been in NZ (Auckland) for 4 years and are thinking of a move out of the city. Just a bit tired of sitting in traffic,...

Re: Bringing my dog to NZ. .....?

Can recommend Golden Arrow, they were fabulous with our two boys.
Agree with costs given, but they're part of the family and were always going to come with us.

Two years?!

Just having a quick look at the site after a prolonged period of absence, and thought I'd post my two year update.

Re: UK Pensions – Guide Rules from 1 April 2014

Hello,
I came over to NZ in February 2013 on a PR visa. I have an NHS pension which I joined in 1988 and had until I left the UK, with a break from NHS employment of a few years in the middle.
I...

Re: Relocating Dogs to NZ

We arrived 8mths ago with our two terriers, we wouldn't have come without them. It cost a fortune, more than the cost of bringing ourselves over, but worth every cent. I have erased the exact cost...

Re: Should we come to Auckland for a week before deciding?

Excluding travel, I spent a week in NZ before moving here. To be honest I'd already made my mind up I was moving, it was my boss who insisted on a visit to meet my future colleagues, see the...

Re: What would you have packed - Newbie fun!

Do you have to pay import duty on M&S deliveries and if so is it expensive?

Wonder if it's worth it for towels or make do with Briscoes?

Re: asthmatic anyone?

Hello,
You are entitled to a funded flu vaccine as an asthmatic, but as in the UK it's only funded for those on regular preventer inhalers. So if you take a daily steroid inhaler there should be no...

Re: Finding a job in retail

Thank you, that helps. I think part of the issue is that he did set himself an unrealistic goal in terms of how it would take to find something. It's just hard to keep motivated sometimes.

Re: Finding a job in retail

Thank you, but so far he hasn't got to that stage. He's applied for lots of jobs, but has never had an acknowledgement let alone an interview.
