Re: Is everyone leaving? Very quiet here.

Having recently assisted a friend with his deliveries, I can say without hesitation that Christchurch and surrounds are going off. Rolleston, Lincoln, Prebbleton, Halswell and West Melton to name but...

Re: Insurancers - House - contents - car.

Just to add to my reply above.
Renewal came in for our contents insurance (actually AA not ASB as stated above). Never claimed for anything in NZ, cover based on $100,000, $300xs, Chch, alarm and...

Re: NZ for retirement (dual UK//NZ citizen)

FYI GP appointments are a co-payment model,...

Re: Insurancers - House - contents - car.

Home insurance ASB, $2200 gone up by about $500 - came in cheaper than AA even with 2 discounts. Note that $600 of the premium was EQC and Fire service levy. Never claimed but no doubt floods up...

Re: Where next? - UK Citizen/NZ perm res living in New Zealand

Lovely place and scenery but I've seen more culture on a yoghurt lid, better long term prospects at a San Fran tent city. The future looks bleak for law abiding folks who want to be left alone. ...

Re: Wide fit shoe brands?

Sports shoes New Balance come up the widest with D, 2E, 4E and 6E fittings.

Ziera does wide/extra wide (removable insoles), although you might find the styles a little dull. Hotter from the UK do...

Re: HELP - potential relocation to NZ

I'm from a little town originally and find Christchurch to be a large buzzing metropolis, whereas I know Londoners who really struggled with how small Chch feels and hated the slow pace of life....

Re: Tesco V NZ

In the 6 years of being here my salary has gone up by a whopping 1.2%. Another 10 years and i'm out of this profession as other low or non skilled jobs catch up or overtake my salary. Probably a good...

Re: Insurance for visit back to uk

There doesn't seem to be much between Southern cross, NIB and AA on price. I guess it's down to the small print. (I used NIB on recent trip to Nepal, 11 days at around $72).

Re: Did anyone emigrate without getting a job first?

A good friend of mine here was a qualified Biomed scientist, however the DHB tended to only recruit from within a certain chosen few, she could only get work as a technician. Eventually fed up, she...

Re: Reality of Chch?

Agreed but in a New Zealand context, I'd rather be in Chch city center than under some of that stuff in Wellington.

In short NZ is a little, lonely spiky strip of rock in the pacific. Our...

Seems a bit off to me, not really the full commonwealth is it? Where's Pakistan, India, Jamaica etc - Not very diverse at all.

Also I...

Re: Adding extra power points (New Build)

From my experience, don't get the cheapo $10 sockets. I had my mancave rewired and used these, only to have to replace them a year later.
