Re: UK Foods in the US Share your finds!

I enjoyed Oui! - it's certainly a step in the right direction but how I long to have the choice and quality of yogurts I took for granted in the UK. Most American yogurt is really very poor indeed.

Re: UK Foods in the US Share your finds!

The only Fromage Frais I'm aware of that is widely available in the USA is Danonino in little six pack tubs. I get it for my daughter from Smart and Final and she really likes it. It's not described...

Re: UK Foods in the US Share your finds!

I checked a couple of my local Costcos (Carmel Mountain and Poway) and no joy on the crumpet front. :( It must be just the ones up East perhaps?

Re: UK Foods in the US Share your finds!

I thought the Trader Joe's ones were fine - I guess I've been away too long my standards have slipped!

Re: British food

Target sold the creme egg (and crunchie) cookies last year as well - they are quite nice. Because Mondelez now have worldwide rights for Cadbury branded cookies/biscuits Hershey have no say...

Re: Moving to San Diego,CA USA

Wise words. I work for Sony in Rancho Bernardo who are affiliated with The North County Credit Union (previously SSDEFCU). They were invaluable in getting me a credit card when nobody else would...

Re: Paracetamol vs Tylenol- Both The Same?

Paracetamol = acetaminophen, they are the same thing, Tylenol is just a brand name, like Panadol. Took quite a bit of getting used to when I first moved to the USA!

Re: Do English Muffins Exist In England

Thanks for the info about French Toast, which as far as I always knew in the UK was the crispbread style toast that's golden the whole way through, certainly not eggy bread.

I think a thread title...

Re: Do English Muffins Exist In England

I remember them as breakfast muffins - I can understand your confusion though as they are not so popular in England as to really warrant being called "English Muffins". I guess it varies depending...

Re: Kettles never last

We have had the exactly the same Braun model as you for over a decade and have had no issues whatsoever (although it was considerably more than $35 - more like $50-$60 so I remember) - those Gerries...

Re: UK Foods in the US Share your finds!

I've noticed Cadbury branded cookies in a lot more places recently and they are properly packaged for US sale by Burton's Biscuit Company who have the contract apparently not only in the UK but in...

Re: UK Foods in the US Share your finds!

That's a good sign - Pimms is very difficult to find where I am in California - maybe it might get a bigger push sometime soon in other parts of the country!

On the other subject - Lu Pim's are...

Re: UK Foods in the US Share your finds!

I see those in Target every year but they sell out fast. They are made in Canada by Mondelez/Cadbury.

Re: UK Foods in the US Share your finds!

Every time I've bought Terry's Chocolate Orange they are marked as made in Poland. I think they make them all there since The Chocolate Works in York was closed.

Re: UK Foods in the US Share your finds!

I'm sure it's been mentioned frequently before but there's just not enough orange/chocolate candy combinations in the US. The Halloween orange coloured Kit-Kats being a particular disappointment as...

Re: UK Foods in the US Share your finds!

Yes, they are now owned by Ron Burkle's Yucaipa group, and they've closed most of the stores down, including my local.

Re: UK Foods in the US Share your finds!

I haven't been to a Fresh and Easy for quite a while since my local store in 4S Ranch closed down. I went to the one in Mira Mesa (San Diego) yesterday to get some back bacon and it wasn't there! :(...

Re: Oh Noes! Chocolate wars...

I figure that the reason why Nestle doesn't launch Toffee Crisp properly in the US is twofold (1) The name - Americans see toffee as being like Heath or peanut brittle - hard and crunchy, not chewy...

Re: Oh Noes! Chocolate wars...

Interestingly Coffee Crisp was a Rowntrees product and Toffee Crisp was a Mackintosh product. They merged and subsequently got taken over by Nestle, hence them now being both Nestle products.

Re: Oh Noes! Chocolate wars...

That is quite deliberate on the part of Hershey - Hershey maintains the agreement it made with Cadbury in 1988 minimally. Providing the minimum inventory levels are adhered to then Hershey has no...

Re: UK Foods in the US Share your finds!

I noticed today that the "Chocolate Wars" affected bars (i.e. Toffee Crisp, Yorkie etc..) are now reduced in Fresh and Easy from $1.49 to 99c to clear their stock. Get them while you can!

Re: Oh Noes! Chocolate wars...

Not quite - Toffee Crisp doesn't have wafers, just crisp rice, caramel & chocolate - it is similar to 100 grand (but I prefer Toffee Crisp).

Re: Oh Noes! Chocolate wars...

I've just bought the last 13 Toffee Crisps from Fresh & Easy at 4S Ranch in San Diego. They are selling off the affected bars at 99c instead of $1.49.

Re: UK Foods in the US Share your finds!

Yes, Target are really good for Boots products, and they always seem to have a rep there. I wonder how long that will last given the Walgreens/Boots merger?

Re: Oh Noes! Chocolate wars...

I'm very fastidious about not opening new threads when an existing one is around, that's why I wanted to contribute to the British Cadbury's Chocolate in the US - British Expats...
