I was in Canada on a tourist visa recently and was approved for a work permit while being in Canada. We had to leave Canada by car at a BC border post to the US so we could reenter Canada...

Andrew - if the situation was that the applicant had been in Canada on multiple tourist/business visits, none of which was >= 6 months but the total time spent in Canada during a year was > 6 months...

For Canada its almost snowless :) Seriously there is snow but everything seems to carry on functioning fine. You don't need engine heaters and lots of people leave their cars out of the garages....

One thing you might want to take into account is if the s/w will still work/be useful in Canada. Most stuff would be fine but for example a UK orientated accounts package might be a waste of time :)...

I'd third the Kelowna suggestion. If you don't want to be right in the city then there are some fantastic (cheap by UK standards) houses 15/20 mins from the city which are really rural but its easy...

I think you will find quite a lot of beer in England is made in small "micro breweries" in the UK as well as the mass produced stuff. The small scale production stuff can be way better, or way worse....
