I agree the okanogan is definetly the right place for you. Particularly Kelona. There is an amazing lake there as well in the summer the weather is funominal. It is quite close to Vancouver and a major plus is that you wont ever have to fuss with ferries. That is probably the major down fall of living on Vancouver Island as the ferries are expensive and not always reliable. Victoria is deffinetly a very beautiful place though. I would look into Kelona deffinetly. Good luck with that.

Yes the house prices in Victoria are quite expensive, expect to pay about $240000 and up for a nice 3 bedroom house. Although if you like commuting then start looking for houses past the Malahat and the price drops considerably yet the size of the house stays the same.
The major problem with Vancouver Island is finding work in your chosen field that is permenent, there are lots of seasonal jobs and contract jobs available.

Why limit yourself to BC only? Its a big country out there, and BC is one of the more expensive parts of it to buy property.
