Re: Registering for residency

Of course, thousands of people do not.

I doubt that there is anybody here who doesn't know of dozens of such "under the radar" people, many of whom are, with dubious advice from various...

Re: Ryanair Flights from Leeds Bradford

Are Monarch flying Faro to Leeda over winter? They're not quite as cheap as Ryanair but service is generally better (not difficult, I know!) and they are still much cheaper than the non-budget...

Re: Staying at least 1 year in Portugal?

Our uk registered motorbike was insured legitimately, in Portugal, with Abbeygate (until we eventually got around to matriculating it last year)
I think Abbeygate are well known for insuring expats...

Re: Algarve, cost of living

LOL sure.
We pay about half our monthly outgoings in rent plus run a car (well, temporarily 2) and a motorcycle.
I guess we are just not 'spendy' folk! (although I'm sure my husband would...

Re: Algarve, cost of living

I can only speak from personal experience but, as a family of 4, living in a 3 bed apartment on the outskirts of Lagos town, we live on a LOT less than €20K!

If all you require is a 1 bed...

Re: Parsnips

ahh, I needed some celery lately although too lazy to hunt it down. Think I bought from Continente last year (fairly certain) but I don't visit there often. Our Pingo hasn't had any the last couple...

Re: allotments

Which side of Lagos?

It's something I would certainly consider but not if it's too far from us (we're Meia Praia side, near the EB2,3 school at the Marina)

Re: Parsnips

We've bought frozen in Pingo but not noticed fresh.

The market in Lagos (upstairs, above fishmarket) did have parsnips last year too.

And, obviously, I've seen them in Iceland

Re: Iceland coming to the Algarve

Re: Schools in general

Glad I don't live where you are/have been then!
We've not experienced non-attendance much at all (maybe 2 or 3 times in 12 months?) and my 11yo's teachers certainly COULD care less (or he wouldn't...

Re: Schools in general

Tough question.

Last year, my 8yo's school was a single class (years 1-4) and single teacher.
She was a lovely lady but a formidable character so you definitely wouldn't mess with her LOL
This...

Re: level of language proficiency (Portuguese)

We didn't do verbs/tenses in English either.
I did, however, study Latin for 5 years (including GCSE - not sure if you can even DO Latin GCSE any more!) so they were taught to me during Latin...

Re: How much does it cost?

You're not kidding!
Summer club (in Luz) for my 8yo this year has been €150 for 4 weeks, 9am til 7pm! (he only went 10am til 5pm, mind you)
That's a bargain!! (and I've been able to recoup that...

I agree, worth a visit to see

Personally, the only thing I'm interested in is gravy granules LOL

Re: Does anybody bank with CGD

We hve a matrix card for our PT account.
It's a grid of numbers in rows/columns.

Whenever we do an online transaction, we are asked for a "coordinate" (eg F5) from our matrix card and we have to...
