Re: Is NZ really that bad?

THIS. THIS is what I've been trying to verbalise for weeks now. Admittedly I don't have kids so the parts specifically relevant to them don't apply to me, but this is pretty much the concept I've got...

Re: Cost of living v. Average wage

Hi KiwiPrincess,

I hope you don't mind me combining your three posts for my response to cut down on the number of posts.

From looking at the more specific jobsites I'm probably going to be...

Re: Cost of living v. Average wage

True, but there is an equally long list of things I want out of life that I CAN get in NZ, and having the things I want, and the oppertunities for hobbies and interests that I want, makes any issues...

Re: Cost of living v. Average wage

That could be an interesting challenge to overcome then, as I might have a potential to earn that kind of money, but I'd rather plan for the lower end outcome than a higher end one.

My only...

Re: Cost of living v. Average wage

In no specific order. Better outdoors opportunities, better quality of air, to get away from the desperate overcrowding in the UK, somewhat better weather, easily accessible surfing and sailing,...

Re: Cost of living v. Average wage

Shrug, I've given up the luxuries before to allow me to spend the money on things I wanted, and I'm fine with curtailing the lifestyle boondoggles for the kind of lifestyle I don't believe I can get...

Re: Cost of living v. Average wage

See the thing with me is that I really am pretty adaptable. I don't actually know how to phrase this, but whatever accomodation I live in, I adapt to. When I live in a house, I adapt to live in a...

Re: Cost of living v. Average wage

Honestly? If I had to restart at the bottom of the rung as a 1st line helpdesk tech, I'd be okay with that if it got me over to NZ. Wouldn't be the first time I've had to go back to the bottom and...

Re: Cost of living v. Average wage

Oh i'd be arriving with nothing much to spare once all the emigration fees are paid and I've put a down-payment on a house in NZ, but really what choice do I have. If I go, I'm going to have to deal...

Re: Cost of living v. Average wage

See, now this is immediately useful information. Okay, so I should be either aiming for a higher level of position, or accepting a longer commute. In mileage, what sort of commute would be required...

Re: Cost of living v. Average wage

Sure, in an abstract sense you are absolutely right. But I'm a very pragmatic soul when you get right down to it.

Why is it that I can find all sorts of information but there is NO base cost of...

Re: Following in Abel Tasman's footsteps

Nothing wrong with that.

Useful in the sense that it left me feeling crushed with regards to being able to move out there any time soon. I have the experience for a very niche sort of job, but...

Re: Cost of living v. Average wage

I Believe that I can probably earn a minimum of 40k nzd, and probably a maximum of 60k given my research on job boards and websites tracking median wages at my level in the IT sector.

I am coming...

Is NZ really that bad?

You know,

I'm a little perturbed.

The general impression of NZ for a lot of people on this and other fora seems to be, well, bad.

I'm not naive enough to think that it would some kind of...

Following in Abel Tasman's footsteps

Though hopefully without getting chased away by angry natives.

Hello all.

I'm looking to move to NZ in the not too distant future. I've grown tired of virtually everything about the culture,...

Cost of living v. Average wage

Hi All,

I'm doing the phase 1 pre-planning for emigrating to NZ, and one of the problems I'm running into is an inconsistency between official reports regarding the cost of living versus the wage...

Re: Newbie seeking help

At the risk of sounding like I'm bragging, I'm actually a really good negotiator. I'd take that challenge on in exchange for a green card.

Uhm, no, Dad and Mum still kicking, and while...

Drat.

And here I was hoping that Canada was going to be easier.

Re: Newbie seeking help

Not really. It was sort of the kick-start of what has been the worst 4 and a half days I've had in years.

Re: Newbie seeking help

Born and raised in fact, so that at least shouldn't be an issue. Mind you I can't imagine the odds of winning are much better than my odds of winning a regular lottery, but I might as well try

Post Re: Newbie seeking help

I'm currently gainfully employed by the UK branch of a GM subsidiary, but I'm fairly sure I'm not eligible for any kind of company transfer. However I shall continue to look into that.

I'll...
