Re: QROPS or not?

This provided more useful info regarding the tax situation when it comes to drawing pensions from the UK (not for a few years yet though...).
The only other concern is what the impact of the...

Re: QROPS or not?

I finally found an advisor that has told me I am better off leaving my defined benefit / final salary schemes well alone and putting them in a QROPS would not be the best thing to do if pension...

Re: QROPS or not?

Thanks all for the replies.
Otto - this has not cost me anything so far and the steep fees that I mention are how the percentage works out on the value of my pot.
I will draw a line under it all...

QROPS or not?

I have seen a few threads about this by searching but not really found the answers I am looking for so...:

I have been speaking to a couple of companies about consolidating my UK ex-company...

Re: Google Chromecast

Yes, they do a US compatible model on Amazon - actually slightly cheaper than the Ca one.

Re: Google Chromecast

Any idea what the outcome would be if I bought a Chromecast in the UK and tried to use that here...?

Re: Google Chromecast

Just jumping in here with a question if I may? I thought the Chromecast just transmits whatever's on your pc or tablet and in that respect it doesn't seem to do anything more than just connect into...

Re: HELP!! Vancouver Island

Your kid's performance in school will be determined (in order) by:
Their attitude
Their ability
Your attitude
The school
If I were you I'd bite their arm off at the shoulder for a job paying...

Re: Cheapish, used, small, 4x4 recommendations?

Yes, very good. "Cheapish" was they key word there. It seems all cars (at least from dealers) bottom out at around $10k here whereas in the UK you can still go much lower than that for something half...

Re: Cheapish, used, small, 4x4 recommendations?

Thanks all for the input. I am not sure about a Jeep (unless it was a WWII Willy's...) and the used CRV looks quite expensive but maybe it just holds value better as (if their bikes are anything to...

Cheapish, used, small, 4x4 recommendations?

I quite like the idea of a 2-3 year old Ford Escape but anyone got any recommendations? Maybe Hyundai / Kia / Subaru...?
My first thought was the Ford as they should be cheaper to service and repair...

Re: Crossing into US Niagara

Meh...be fine.
It is a heavy metal concert so we probably wouldn't attract much attention as if dressed for the opera but anyway, I think I will probably drive over closer to the venue as that...

Re: Crossing into US Niagara

Swell. Sounds like I'd rather risk it (with my passport down my pants) than leave my car parked in the area though. Especially with all the news reports on how much they welcome Ca plated vehicles.

Crossing into US Niagara

I have booked tickets to a concert at the Rapids Theatre on the US side of Niagara Falls. Is there anything fancy to think about other than carrying passports to cross over? Are we supposed to get...

Re: Waitressing and tips and tax

Good point. You are more likely to say, "Right, what's your best price on these shoes? Look - there's a mark there, how about $10 off...?". I know someone who does this all the time. He's Canadian.

Re: Waitressing and tips and tax

What's the going rate for leaving tips - 10%? 15%? I assume the same for the pizza delivery guy etc too?

Re: Prefix number for cheap phone calls to UK?

Re: Prefix number for cheap phone calls to UK?

Thanks. If I have the PC-free phone connected can I use the same Skype ID to make a video call on the laptop?

Re: Prefix number for cheap phone calls to UK?

Funny you should say that as I have just been sussing it out. I have created an online UK number, which (if I have understood it correctly) people in the UK can dial at local rate and the call is...

Prefix number for cheap phone calls to UK?

When in the UK and calling Canada, we used a prefix number from Planet-numbers or Telediscount to call Canada for a penny or two a minute. Do such things exist for calling the other way around i.e....

Re: Good Points, Bad Points

Depends where you are. Sounds like most who have replied are doing nice bits of Canada - the sort of scenic Canada you normally think of. I have been here a couple of months on the edge of Toronto...
