Re: HSBC Savings Account 10%!

If you are a HSBC Premier account holder the account will let you save around $6000 AU equivalent per year at 10%. There is nothing to rival that here.

Re: HSBC Savings Account 10%!

That's the one I am referring to. What I meant is why can't Australia offer a similar or better product. Surely if the banks are making so much profit it's not too much to ask for better products.

Re: Wanted Down Under 2009 - Repeated Aug 2010

I can't stand that programme it's too unrealistic.

I like Phil Down Under at least he was honest. His Sydney summary was something like Beautiful Sydney, amazing place to live, however it is the...

Re: Snobbery in Perth Real or Fake !!!!

The thread title is about snobbery rather than class though. Snobbery is much wider than just class.

Re: HSBC Savings Account 10%!

You can still get savings accounts for 5% in the UK. That's 4.5% above the Bank of England's rate of 0.5%.

Re: HSBC Savings Account 10%!

Yes but the cash rate is 4.75%. 6% means ANZ are only giving you 1.25% about the cash rate.

That's not great.

Re: HSBC Savings Account 10%!

I revised my comment after posting. Should have been clearer.

It's annoying that British banks can offer higher rates than Australia when Britain's economy is supposed to be in turmoil.

Re: HSBC Savings Account 10%!

Why do Australian banks offer such low rates though. Especially when interest rates are higher.

Oh didn't see that. Still there is nothing in Australia that pays that.

HSBC Savings Account 10%!

Wow. http://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/personal/savings/regular-saver

How come us Australians don't get deals like that? Especially when the interest rate is much higher than the UK!

Re: Snobbery in Perth Real or Fake !!!!

Fair enough. But the general point is that people that rent in Australia are often treated poorly. The whole system is geared towards protecting landlords and their profits.

Ok, you did say "Including being treated badly by the people they rent from" though.

Re: Has australia lost it sparkle???

Thirroul is nice. It's like a sunny version of the Cornish coast.

If I was going to stay permanently in Aus, I would probably settle in Far North QLD. Beautiful beaches, GBR and rainforest.

Re: Happiness Index

I thought Vanuatu was the happiest place in the world. They haven't got any of the above!

Maybe we should move there - no more cricket or rugby league!
