Re: Tor form for household goods - how precise needed?

My advice is not to overthink it - assorted tools, kitchenware, pictures, books with approximate numbers where appropriate. We’d already got rid of stuff we definitely weren’t taking, and...

Re: Tor form for household goods - how precise needed?

We did exactly the same - went round the house room by room, and did a very rough inventory just as you did. Did it on a spreadsheet and assigned values which made it easier to have an idea of our...

Re: Transfer of Residence process (back to the UK)

We moved back in a phased way, in that my husband was here about 9 months before we sold up and moved our stuff. The system set up his ToR date from when he moved, meaning that we knew before the...

Re: Update on Passport Requirements when entering the UK from February 2026

I agree with your confusion - also dual but Canada/UK. I can’t understand the need to send even photocopies of the ‘other’ passport but did so - not all the blank pages though, which was...

Re: TRAVEL INSURANCE

I’m also a dual citizen although with Canada but will frequently be visiting Canada. I’d never thought of travel insurance being an issue with dual citizen status? We get ‘regular’ insurance...

Re: Renewing UK passport

Go to the gov.uk site to renew passport (don’t go through a third party site as it’s more expensive) and follow their instructions. You may be able to submit your own photograph- follow their...

Re: O2 SIM / eSIM

I’m back in the UK and have a pay as you go plan with Giffgaff - I actually have a physical sim as I’ve had no reason to change. On their website, they say ‘it’s simple to set up an eSIM on...

Re: Tax advice moving back from Canada to U.K

Definitely look urgently at making additional NI contributions soon if your aim is to move back ultimately and you can afford it. Rules are changing soon - at present you may well be eligible for the...

Re: Moving back to the UK from Canada

I just checked my details from our move a year ago. We moved from Whitby, ON to Worcestershire. The final volume was 725 cubic feet and total cost was 11kCAD which equates to about £6k - this...

Re: Has anyone used Wise to transfer large amounts from Canada to the UK?

We used Wise in November to move house proceeds from Canada to the UK. TD to Wise to Lloyds. OH did it but I don’t recall any issues. We had a phone call from TD, I think, on transfer day,...

Re: UK State Pension

And you should be able to buy back ‘extra’ years of UK pension by making additional NI contributions, again by checking your pension forecast as mentioned above. If you meet certain criteria,...

Re: Can the approved TOR date be changed?

Have you contacted them? We had the opposite scenario earlier this year, in that our ToR final date had to be extended, called them, then had to email and it was adjusted easily. I think the contact...

Re: Driving license exchange

Perhaps it’s changed? We went through the exchange late last year - as the form requested our Ontario licences, we also sent them off, and received British licences about 10 days later.

Re: Have you topped up your NI/UK pension? Why? Why not?

Interesting that you had the higher quote for the earlier years, then lower since 2020? But that aside, it would seem a better use of your money to just pay the lower rate for the recent years,...
