With that little stuff, seriously consider get rid of everything except the boxes and use air freight for them. By the way, the TV will not work in Canada.

Elsewhere on the forum I read about...

Re: Best Shipping company?

Are you sure that it wasn't the sea voyage that caused the damage? Sometimes you just have bad luck with the weather which is why there is insurance.

Also, I've seen a lot of comments about...

Re: Calgary AB v's Kelowna BC (Okanagan)

Now add on the distance from Kelowna. As I said, the West Edmonton Mall is close to Calgary and you could even take a day trip there.

I used to live in Armstrong BC and work in Calgary, commuting...

Re: West London to BC - and need of insider info

Yes, in the whole of BC. Go to Google maps, zoom out to show the whole province, select satellite view, and then zoom in one step at a time. It should soon be obvious that 95% of BC is mountain...

Re: Calgary AB v's Kelowna BC (Okanagan)

Why stress about this?

Go to Calgary. Work. Bank the extra earnings.

You will also be able to spend a year or two enjoying what Calgary has to offer, and part of that is proximity to things...

Re: Driving in Canada (BC)

Just keep reminding yourself "keep to the right" and you will do OK. In particular, things like motorways make it really hard to go the wrong way.

Your biggest problem is likely to be left turns....

Re: Bricklaying in Vancouver

There hasn't been much brick construction in Vancouver for at least 50 years if not more. The brickwork that you do see is an occasional garden wall, and in some neighbourhoods, brick veneer on the...

Re: West London to BC - and need of insider info

BC doesn't have much that would be considered "rural" by British standards. You either live in town, on the edge of town, or in the wilderness. The Fraser Valley near Vancouver is about the only...

Re: Thinking of Moving Provinces

In some ways Grindrod is like a distant suburb of Sicamous and Salmon Arm. It's actually closer to Enderby and more tied into the Enderby area economy, but places like Grindrod and Enderby may be too...

Re: Thinking of Moving Provinces

The towns in the interior tend to differ quite a lot from each other. Have you looked at other places such as Salmon Arm, Penticton, or even Revelstoke (if you like 2-3 metres of snow in your yard)?...

Here is the accreditation agency in BC: http://www.bcit.ca/ices/

Re: Qualifications translated

This might be regulated on the provincial level in which case you would have to check for info on the province where you want to go. For instance in BC, BCIT handles credentials from overseas.

Re: Best Shipping company?

I would say that you should communicate with at least 4 companies in the UK, even if you only end up taking quotes from a couple of them. We went with shipit.co.uk which did a pretty amazing job on...

Re: We have LANDED

Firstly, you can check what is legal to import and what is not, on the Canada government websites.

Secondly, if it is legal, then the value is important. There is a limit in what you can bring in...

Re: Hire Car with Debit Card

This is true about getting your first Canadian credit card. However, you can still use your UK credit card as long as you like, but if you actually spend money rather than just securing a hire car or...

Re: Hire Car with Debit Card

The car rental is just the beginning of your problems.

My advice to everyone is to get a credit card BEFORE you leave the UK, with at least £1000 credit limit on it.

The purpose is NOT to spend...

I don't know why all of you are demanding that your landlords be Internet users and plugged in to the local Internet scene.

Re: where to start - rentals in Vancouver

Actually, Craigslist is more the be all end all in the USA. In Canada it gets some competition from Kijiji so do try http://vancouver.kijiji.ca/ as well.

There is at least one estate agent who...
