Re: Passport and name change question

That makes me feel better. Thank you. I'll just leave the tickets and passport the same and bring my marriage license along, too.

Re: Passport and name change question

Yes, my tickets and passport both match each other. What they don't match is my DL and SS. I won't be using either of those though. I'll be using my passport as my primary ID.

Passport and name change question

OK, here's my problem. When I got married, I wanted to hyphenate my Maiden-Married names. So, for the first seven years I was Mrs. Jane Ann Doe-Jones. I naturalized in the UK with this name and both...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Okay, I've got another question. Can you redeem Chase Ultimate Rewards miles with BA? We couldn't find a good flight with United so we're going with BA. However, the only credit card on the BA...

Re: Car seat question

Hmm, now you've got me worried. Maybe it would be better to either buy or borrow seats from friends once we get there. We've got a lot of money invested in our infant seat, and I don't want to risk...

Re: Car seat question

Thanks for the replies everyone. Our Britax infant seat has a base that is both LATCH compatible and seat belt compatible if LATCH isn't available. I think we will definitely bring that one, clicked...

Car seat question

We are making our first visit back to the UK this summer. We will be flying with our two children (ages 4 and 8 months). BA will allow us to check a car seat for each child in addition to their 1...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Okay, I think we're going with United. Here's what I've found:
Chase United MileagePlus Explorer card is offering 30,000 bonus miles after $1,000 spend in the first 3 months. $0 intro annual fee...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Thanks for all the advice tonrob! You've given us lots to think about. I was leaning toward booking with BA, but now we're giving United another look. Much appreciated! :)

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Thanks so much for your help!

Some questions:
1.Do any of you have any mileage programme accounts at the moment (with any existing balances?) I don't think so. We used to have accounts with AA...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Hi tonrob,
I've been reading your posts about miles, deals, etc. for a couple of years now, and I've found them very interesting. I've been trying to get my head around it all, but I'm still...

Re: Christmas parcels

Does anybody know about sending homemade food from the UK to the US? I tried looking on the US Customs page and the USPS page for information, but I got a little bogged down in all of it. I THINK a...

Re: Did anyone move to USA without a job first ?

Yes, we both did in March 2010. For us, it was impossible not to. I'm the US citizen and after being gone for nearly five years, nobody was going to hire me without recent US experience. DH is a...

Just got a letter from HSBC stating they are downgrading our current account, which has always been (to our knowledge) a regular old current account, to a basic account (i.e. no debit cards, just a...

Re: Best way to call UK mobile/landlines from USA

These options looks good, but what confuses me is what we need to get started. Right now, all we have are cheap PAYG mobiles that we put $10 credit on each month. No landline, no smartphones, not...

Re: F'in US Customs

Sorry to butt into your thread, but I'm confused by this. When our stuff shipped, it cleared customs without a penny charged. We paid a one time fee of $2000 to our shipping company upfront before we...

Re: Child born to USC and UKC! Green card questions as well!

Agree with everyone else. Get both passports at the same time. Our situation was exactly the same as yours. I'm USC, husband is UKC and our daughter was born in the UK. We took her to the US Embassy...

Re: BBC Iplayer whilst in US - is it possible

I've found this site very helpful.
www.ibvpn.com

There's a small charge for the service, $19.95 for six months I think, but it's been completely worth it for us. We get BBC iPlayer, Channel...

Re: Use a visa advisor or just do it all yourself?

Honestly, unless you have a very complicated situation, I'd say skip the advisor. We didn't use one when I made the move over to the UK or when I got my ILR and eventually my UK citizenship. Later,...

We did things a little bit differently. The first thing we did was visit my US credit union, which I had kept active the whole five years we lived in the UK.

Upon arrival in the US, they set up a...
