Re: US SSN for US Citizen born in Canada

Yes, been through all that already - which is how we found the Fort Gratiot, MI office that apparently deals with US citizens born in Ontario (or at least some parts of Ontario). Was more interested...

US SSN for US Citizen born in Canada

Has anyone recently been able to get a US Social Security Number (SSN) for a US citizen born in Canada? My grandson was born in London, Ontario and it seems there is a field office that deals with...

Re: Using consular birth registration certificate to get first UK passport

I was not able to use a consular birth cert to get my USA-born daughter's British passport recently. For the British passport application, I had to submit all the same paperwork that I had to submit...

Re: Traveling to UK Use American or British Passport ?

That's why I said this: Always show the US passport if you encounter a US immigration official.

Although the chances of encountering a US immigration official when exiting the US must be close to...

Re: Traveling to UK Use American or British Passport ?

The requirement for a US citizen to leave the US with a US passport doesn't necessarily mean using it to check in with the airline. Having it on your person is sufficient - that way, you are actually...

Re: Phone provider for receiving UK bank OTP codes in US

My UK bank sent me an electronic security device that looks a bit like a very simple calculator. Whenever I try to do anything major online, I have to generate a token on the calculator and punch it...

Re: BBC online now charging US located persons?

Why pay a BBC subscription fee when you could get a VPN for about the same price? Maybe even less. A VPN gives so much more flexibility. I have Nord VPN and can select a UK server and watch BBC, ITV,...

Re: Citizenship application.

Another thing new US citizens should do is go to the local SSA office and have them change your record to indicate that you are a US citizen. Other government agencies use the SSA database to verify...

Re: BBC

I use Nord VPN. Can pretend to be anywhere in the world. I watch quite a lot of stuff on BBC iPlayer. I also travel between Canada and the US a lot so it's often useful to pretend to be in the US...

Re: Best way to renew a UK passport inside the USA?...

I did not send my US passport. I sent a colour photocopy. There's no way I'm sending my US passport anywhere. Even US passport renewals no longer ask for the old passport if you renew online.

Re: Best way to renew a UK passport inside the USA?...

Since 2011, British passport applications have to be sent to the UK.

Re: Traveling to UK Use American or British Passport ?

What you did is not the correct way to handle this. British (and Irish) citizens are not eligible for ETA.

Get an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) to visit the UK: When you do not need an ETA...

Re: Is UK consular birth certificate useless?

This confirms what I feared. I'm struggling to think of how a consular birth cert is in any way useful.

Re: UK to US relocation - sell property and reinvest, or rent

Roth IRAs have very low maximum contribution limits ($7000 per person per year if under 50 years old; $8000 per person per year if 50 years old or over). These contribution limits can be further...

I didn't ask my question clearly enough but I see now that there are 2 different questions:

(1) This wasn't what I was asking but one question is: can the UK consular birth cert be submitted for a...

Yeah - I'm sure you know she should have sent photocopies of her US passport pages. This link doesn't make that clear though - only in the very small print at the bottom of page 3:

Re: Dual Nationals ETA experience traveling to UK

I think they mean on the way back to the US, someone might harass them for leaving the US as a US citizen with a non-US passport (i.e. by using it at check-in). Probably got more chance of being...

Re: Dual Nationals ETA experience traveling to UK

As long as you leave the US with the US passport on your person, you are covered if you are challenged - I doubt they care which one you checked in with. They really don't have time to check and I...
