Re: Buying Tires from Costco

I can see why they would do that (liability) but it does limit choice if you want something different.

Re: Buying Tires from Costco

I may have found the same, but didn't have time to look around too much. I did give my Toyota dealer a chance though, considering I needed a service anyway and they had a "price match guarantee"...

Re: Buying Tires from Costco

Just bought a set of all seasons from Costco. Ordered online, then made an appointment for fitting. I didn't have a lift, so had to wait at the store whilst they fitted the tyres. 2 hrs!!! Everything...

Re: Car oil change intervals

Yeah that's roughly it. The difference between asking a dealership and a less biased source perhaps.

Re: Car oil change intervals

I buy premium brand synthetic when it's on sale...about $30 for 4.4 or 5L. With the extra kms I believe it affords me over mineral oil, there's not too much cost difference. And then there's the...

Re: Car oil change intervals

Erm, it kind of does for most people. That's why it bothers me. Because I don't believe them but feel compelled to do as I'm told by the 'experts'.

Regardless, it's 3 times shorter than in the UK...

Car oil change intervals

This has been bugging me since I moved here. In the UK, cars I've owned always had service intervals of 10,000 miles or more. Here in Ontario, 5000 to 6000 kms seems to be the norm. I was told by...

Re: so lonng, farewell

There's no right or wrong, do whatever feels right.

For me, it would depend if I knew when/how regularly (or even IF) I'd be able to travel back to see people.

I had a night out with friends,...

Re: how to watch top gear...

I've previously used streetfire.net to watch current streaming Topgear shows. No downloading/VPN/torrent etc etc necessary. I haven't checked recently though, so I don't know how up-to date they are...

Re: Canada or Australia

I spent a year in Oz as a backpacker. Loved it, would have stayed if I could, and still long to go back.

I have never regretted moving from UK to Canada, but would have chosen Oz if given the...

Re: How do you keep your car clean in winter?

I thought they all did that...keep looking, you'll find one. On another note, I hope you've got some kind of underbody wax/oil protection?

Re: Alternatives to Surrendering an I94 at US Land Border Post

I really would not recommend doing that.

It is a pain to have the responsibility of surrendering the I94, especially when you can go through the whole process without anyone mentioning the...

Re: Price of Beer and Wine

Liquor Communist Board of Ontario - I'm increasingly brewing my own (Brewhaven) or buy US craft from over the border.

LCBO still gets plenty off cash off me though

Re: Alternatives to Surrendering an I94 at US Land Border Post

Right, mailing is probably your only other option.

I was in the same position a little while ago. Ended up flying back to the UK at short notice...surrendered my I94 upon re-entry to Canada. ...

Re: Cheapish, used, small, 4x4 recommendations?

Didn't read the whole thread, but we love our Rav4. Forester was also on my shortlist. CVR highly rated for this class too.

Wouldn't mind an MDX if I could afford it...

Re: How do you keep your car clean in winter?

A good polish & wax will help protect the paint over Winter and slow down corrosion on the many stone chips too. I used to have the time and energy to do that...

Re: How do you keep your car clean in winter?

I had some back in the UK, recommended by users of a Jaguar forum. I was extremely cynical of it at first but decided to give it a go. Seemed to work fine and somehow did not damage the paint. Only...

Re: Winter tyres (or is that tires)

Don't forget, studded tyres aren't allowed in some areas.

Winter tyres are a must for me, I'll stick 'em on most likely end Oct or early Nov.

Re: Allowance when visiting U.S zero?

Why wouldn't it? It's something that a good many people consume, and it is expensive here in ON.

Almost all Canadians whom I've quizzed about cross border shopping make beer runs to the US. Maybe...

My wife was shortlisted down to the last 2 applicants by a well known global financial co in Toronto. Even then, they didn't bother to tell her that she didn't get the job! I find that...

Re: Allowance when visiting U.S zero?

We did a cross-border trip recently. Stateside for 4 hours, $350 worth of baby & maternity stuff and a few beers, presented receipts at border, waved through with no taxes to pay.

I was ready to...

Re: British expressions that confuse Canadians

I'm also often mistaken for an Aussie. Got a "G'Day Mate" from a hotel staff member yesterday in fact.

I do have to be careful not to tell anyone that I was stroking a dog/cat/whatever... it...
