Re: Skilled employment

Sorry about the delay, thanks for the replies.

I'm not actually a solicitor now, although had considered getting admitted in Aus as a potential path to residency but decided not to.

Skilled employment

Quick question re skilled employment for visa purposes, are you required to have your skills formally assessed, like you would for Australia?

Or is it sufficient that an employer has offered you...

186 ENS changes and dates

The changes to the 457 and 186 visas have dealt my plans for a permanent return to Australia a significant blow.

My occupation is now only on the combined list of eligible occupations and...

Re: Breaking News - 457 visa being abolished

This is a big blow for me.

Whilst I always knew 457 didn't guarantee PR, it at least offered a chance.

Seems my occupation is now only on the STSOL.

Will wait to see how the next year...

Re: First year thoughts of a sun baked country

Great post and very interesting as we're planning on making the move in 2018 when our children will be a similar age - nearly 3 and 1.

Brisbane is appealing more and more, the impression I get is...

Re: Moving to Sydney in 9 weeks - HELP! To do list??

On the car front - pretty sure you can only import if you are entering on a permanent visa, plus as Spuddyo says, the cost and hassle of it even if you could import, would only be worthwhile for...

Re: Age limit to citizenship and limit to number of tourist visas

A 186 would be ideal, some work to do to explore how likely that is with an employer.

Suppose it comes down to how I present myself to them, ensuring they can see it's a long term move having...

Re: Age limit to citizenship and limit to number of tourist visas

Have had a look this morning, closest description to my occupation is sales and marketing manager, which only appears on the CSOL.

Am I right in thinking this would rule out anything other than an...

Re: Age limit to citizenship and limit to number of tourist visas

That's a good point, it's been over 6 years since I switched careers now and last time I looked at the requirements was probably a couple of years ago.

Will check it out and see what the...

Re: Age limit to citizenship and limit to number of tourist visas

Thanks verystormy, appreciate it's no guarantee.

However, unless someone thinks otherwise I reckon 457 is probably our best/only route back. On the employer side, the same could be said of many...

Re: Age limit to citizenship and limit to number of tourist visas

As Polly said, not all 457's require a skills assessment and I know from personal experience that the roles I will be looking at do not, from personal experience and the fact that they are regularly...

Re: Age limit to citizenship and limit to number of tourist visas

On the PR side, the key is that by going down the 457 route you then don't need to complete a skills assessment when you eventually apply for PR. So as long as the job you are doing is on the...

Re: How to qualify as a solicitor in Australia?

I looked into this a few years ago and would second MelVan's comments.

Once qualified in E&W, it's far from straight forward to gain qualification in Aus, which is required in order to pass a...

Age limit to citizenship and limit to number of tourist visas

My wife and I lived in Sydney for nearly 2 years (on a 457) and came back to the UK in 2012, to start a family and make use of a bigger support network amongst other things.

Almost 5 years down...

Re: UK lawyer looking to get NSW admission

Ha ha harsh but true.

Irony is I can't stand it, but if it'll get me in then losing the last 8 years or so of my life to it will have at least been good for something!!

Law society of NSW and...

Re: A return to Sydney, 457 to PR

My previous employer in Sydney has made it clear the door is open for my return (I was employed by them as spouse under my wife's 457 visa whilst we were in Sydney).

Can imagine employers willing...

Re: A return to Sydney, 457 to PR

Thanks Polly, appreciate the heads up.

From having a read through the Skills Select site, it seems that an ENS (subclass 186) might be the way forward, if I can get an employer to provide...

A return to Sydney, 457 to PR

My wife and I returned to the UK earlier this year after 18 months on sceondment in Sydney. It hasn't taken us long to decide where we want to be long term.

So the planning begins.

In short,...

Re: 457 Visa - How long will it take?

Seems like there'll be a few of us arriving in Sydney in November.

I'm hoping to fly out week commencing 8 November. Got our temporary accommodation sorted now as well which is good.
