Re: Smug and superior

But not in what I said in response to amideislas' post.

That's modesty and self referential.

Re: Cost of living - why so difficult?

What's this, an embargo on controversy? Let's all agree to agree.

Re: Smug and superior

I did not say smug, I said patronising and superior, which I think fits. The reference to my being "new" was made by someone who felt they were higher up the pecking order with the superiority with...

Re: Cost of living - why so difficult?

Thanks. I know I am not going to win the award for the most popular of people, but this site can be soooo frustrating. If one is going to join in and offer advice in good faith, then it should be...

See what I mean - patronising and superior.

Re: Cost of living - why so difficult?

Thanks, Pica, but was hoping just for a rough guide. It's a bit like buying a car - you could spend £10k or £50k. I could not tell you exactly what you'd get, nobs, whistles bells and all, but I...

Re: Cost of living - why so difficult?

I forgot to add patronising on my other thread to my list of issues some contributors suffer.

Smug and superior

I recall years ago, on one particular Med holiday, having a few beers with my mates and talking to a group of English who were over for the season doing various jobs to keep them afloat. After an...

Re: Cost of living - why so difficult?

Thanks guys, but I'm still a bit sketchy, yet my Spaniard would at least have a clue about coming to the UK ; )

Maybe you can help if I gave you a bit more as to my specific circumstances:

-...

Sure, but I've given an outline of what one can expect within each bracket.

Re: Cost of living - why so difficult?

Thanks for the replies, and I do appreciate the time you've taken, but why is it difficult to give broad averages when I can do it for the UK?

Cost of living - why so difficult?

I was thinking of moving to France, but have changed tack and am looking toward Spain. Once again the old chestnut of cost of living is a problem to figure out. The main issue is, despite many...

Re: Have I left it too late

I think, just to be on the safe side, I'll have to hedge and account for a decent chunk for health. The only other "what if" is where the euro takes us mid to long term. I read the current 135 to...

Re: Have I left it too late

The problem is there does not appear to be an iron clad option one can take with confidence. Having a good idea of my outgoings is essential since I'd want to be pretty sure of what I was getting...

Re: Have I left it too late

Thank you all for your replies.

Re my situation; I'd be economically inactive, as would my wife. Our income is derived from property. This is where the confusion vis a vis health is concerned....

Re: Have I left it too late

That's encouraging, thanks.

Got the earning a living covered, although the healthcare aspect is a little fuzzy. But that's another post.

Re: Have I left it too late

We're serious about moving, but our reasons are not serious. It's mainly a lifestyle choice. There is no imperative. It would be an easier decision to potentially put our son's education in jeopardy...

Have I left it too late

Hi,

Have been talking about moving to France for some time. The big issue for us is my son who is 8 in a few months. I do wonder if we have left it too late and he might struggle adapting and...

Re: Finally on my way - I hope.

Thank you all for the advice thus far. Seems we should not be quite so concerned with our son. I'm pretty sure he'll be ok but don't want him to have a hard time and you do hear the odd story about...

Re: Finally on my way - I hope.

Thank you.

He'll be in year 3 in the UK around the time we move. Our concern would be he might get left behind in the time it takes to get to grips with French without a bit of support.

Re: Finally on my way - I hope.

Thanks. For us it's about family, quality of life and time to do the things we enjoy. We are fortunate enough to be able to draw a passive income and most likely could do something similar in the UK,...

Finally on my way - I hope.

Sold the house and now looking to finalise our arrangements in the UK with a view to move to France around Xmas. That said I'm still not 100% sure of what I am doing. For me the most difficult bit...

Re: How do I work out if I can afford to live?

I know, that's one of the problems I face figuring out. If I have to provide full medical cover for the three of us then I think it's a non-starter. But once again, it's understanding the full story...

Re: How do I work out if I can afford to live?

Thanks for the reply. I do not intend to work and I would need to rent. I've got a pretty good idea of costs so far as living expenses go, but of course unless I have a handle on net income it's hard...
