If my memory serves me correct, you're only allowed to volunteer in a position that would not normally be paid.. bit of a grey area there. Here is a link that might shed some light on the situation....

Aw, I'm jealous. My IEC visa ran out at the end of March and i've spent more than 18 months outside of the UK so can't apply for another one :( I don't know if I can wait for my PR to come through.....
