Re: Has anyone moved from Ontario to Alberta

Thanks to all for your input and for sharing your experiences. As usual there are some very mixed opinions and contradicting views about Calgary. Some say the lack of humidity is a good thing,...

Re: Has anyone moved from Ontario to Alberta

I can't work out what I would prefer; Alberta's long cold winters but dry mild summers or Ontario's still pretty long cold winters and long hot sticky bug ridden summers. What is the bug count like...

Re: Has anyone moved from Ontario to Alberta

It's not that our only interest is acquiring material wealth, it's just that we have had to start our lives again in Ontario after I gave up a lot back in the UK to come here and we would like to be...

Has anyone moved from Ontario to Alberta

I've been in Ontario now for 3 years. I came to Canada for love and I am happy to say that things in that department are great. I also find myself much happier in Canada than in the UK. I feel...

Re: Small business experts can I pick your brain?

I disagree that free advice on the internet is worth nothing. I've received and given a lot of good advice on the internet. Information like that which was posted by Steve was useful. He didn't...

Re: Small business experts can I pick your brain?

I am very grateful for useful advice, but in all fairness the advice that the first person offered was as useful as "try eating a carrot". All he/she suggested was to get advice elsewhere and...

Re: Small business experts can I pick your brain?

Hi Steve and thanks for your reply. I finally got through to small business helpline and they said it's best to just register a new business in my own name as a sole prop and have my partner...

Re: Small business experts can I pick your brain?

I already mentioned these things but I'll say them again. The business is my common law's sole proprietorship. If I register a new entity I still need to know the procedure and tax implications of...

Re: Small business experts can I pick your brain?

The thread title calls for small business experts and obviously you are the opposite of that so why waste your time posting if you don't know anything about the topic, don't have anything helpful to...

Small business experts can I pick your brain?

My common law partner has a business. It's in her name as a sole proprietorship and since I got my PR I have been helping run it, now doing almost 100% of the work. I'm going to be running the...

Re: Gunman on the loose - Moncton

Cars are not designed to kill or injure people and animals. Guns are designed specifically to kill or injure life. Having more guns does not make for a safer, more peaceful, less aggressive...

Re: Making New Friends :)

For those who aren't into drinking or watching men move balls around rectangles, another suggestion is to get used to your own company.

re: Timeline For Spousal Sponsorship via London & Inland

We needed to get at least a year of living together and sharing bills, accounts, insurance etc. before we could apply for PR. So the total time taken was a month shy of 2 years.

re: Timeline For Spousal Sponsorship via London & Inland

Thanks again for the reply. I still don't understand exactly what happens at the border though. Shouldn't the Sponsor's financial test have been done during the application process already? They...

re: Timeline For Spousal Sponsorship via London & Inland

We didn't get an email either, and got the same message as you. You've probably been approved! Our letter took two weeks to arrive after the decision made date.

re: Timeline For Spousal Sponsorship via London & Inland

Thanks! About the funds part, since I've been living here for 2 years and the last year has been as a visitor so I've not been allowed to work, my account has only around $800 in it now as all the...

re: Timeline For Spousal Sponsorship via London & Inland

They don't all need to be signed. I don't remember exactly but I think we only signed 1 or 2 of them. Someone else is bound to know for sure though.

re: Timeline For Spousal Sponsorship via London & Inland

I just got my COPR letter!

My application for CL sponsorship took 7 months from receipt of application to COPR. We lost a month because I forgot to tick a box.

I just have 2...

re: Timeline For Spousal Sponsorship via London & Inland

I think there's more to it than that. Possibly those who applied earlier got caught up in the strike chaos and those who applied later got lucky and had their applications looked at after the chaos...
