Hey Everyone,
Me and my girlfriend have recently moved to North Vancouver from the UK. We love it here however were finding it a little difficult as we don't know anyone. Were both 28 and very social.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to meet new people please let me know.
Thanks
Mark

You can also try to organise a Vancouver Meetup on here - info on the sticky threads in the Maple Leaf. The World Cup is a great excuse to organise it as there are tons of expats in Vancouver!

I adopted a pub when we moved to Oakville. I got to know the bar staff in a couple of days. They did all the introductions and I ended up with a circle of friends in no time.
I couldn't do the same in Gatineau. The pub culture is almost non-existent. I don't even go to what few bars there are.

Souvy, which pub in Oakville? I'm curious!
(Feel free to PM instead so we don't entirely hijack OP's thread. :P)

I went to the King's a fair bit in the summer. I hated the Queen's. It was full of expat Brits that didn't welcome newcomers. Bear in mind that this was 10 years ago. Oakville has probably changed quite a lot.

The pubs will no doubt willl be busier than normal becuase of the world cup. If OP are very social they should have no trouble at all! Instant friends!

For those who aren't into drinking or watching men move balls around rectangles, another suggestion is to get used to your own company.

Oh believe me, many canadians suddenly find an interest in the game and you'll find canadians who have 3 or 4 generations here in canada suddenly become experts on the finer details of the teams from countries that their great grandparents moved from.....
Maybe not so much in the Patch though.

The place I mainly went to was the Tree Judges (next to the butcher's on Lakeshore). It doesn't exist anymore.

I've been to Kings a few times - they've just redone their menu, great food, and a good beer selection. I've been to Queens once or twice, definitely a "dad bar", but Husband likes that they have Pride on tap. :P Good food, though.
Kings turns into quite the hotspot for "yoofs" though, we went there on a Friday a few weeks ago, at about 10pm or so the live music started, at which point we figured that was our cue to leave. When we stepped outside it was packed full of yoofs! :O

Maybe get there early.. People may not be too approachable if England shit the bed, which may happen! If we get a decent result though you'll be guaranteed to make lots of friends haha!

I hear you about making friends in Vancouver, I moved here 18 months ago and while I'm lucky to have met a number of people through my interest in music, I haven't made a single friend outside of that scene. People here seem to be very friendly but very reluctant to let you into their lives, and that is something I have heard from many sources as well as my own opinion. I have attended various Meetup groups and will continue to do so to try and make new friends. Try the 20's and 30's Outdoor Adventures Group and one called 'I Love My Friends But...'
