We did it without an agent. It was fine (albeit frustrating) but I wasn't working at the time.

Depends what kind of time, money (and patience) you have on your hands.

Thanks, good tip about shipping before you leave (providing you have somewhere else to stay).

This will be our 6th international move and 2nd one to Australia so I'm au fait with the relocation...

Guess it's a case of cultural differences then as individual school visits for potential parents are commonplace here. There's a big push to being (seen to be) accommodating to immigrants too.

Think you may have hit the nail on the head there - if they're all pretty similar then my worries are academic (no pun intended). Over here state schools can still be quite different - some schools...

I'm not a 'School Evaluator' but I'm a parent and the 'feel' for the school and (perhaps more importantly) the ethos and approach of the school management team is surely something any parent should...
