That price looks OK for air but it out prices the value and they so not do sea freight. It was though Excess Baggage I have now gone through Seven Seas, they provide the cartons and everything...

That does not sound good. You should be able to deposit the cheques but there will be charges and clearance delays. Talk to your bank.
It may be better to get then to deposit into your Canadian...

I do not qualify for a Premier so the account I opened was an ordinary savings account simply called 'Bank Account' there was nothing about Advance accounts.

I opened one in Sydney on the 18th March and the account was opened in London on the same day. No problems and considering the high cost of using my Australian card in the UK the AUD200 was worth it....

Train passes are the way to go I agree. I understand they become active on the first journey so they are pretty flexible.
