She did take Social Security and Medicare. Which makes her a hypocrite on one level, and a paragon of looking after her own self-interest on another. utterly obnoxious either way.

It is funny isn't it Meow? It's somehow become a bad word in The United States of America.

And although Rand's risible so-called philosophy of "Objectivism" enshrined adolescent social and economic ideas, she did follow through on the libertarianism most of the way being a firm atheist, proponent of guilt-free sex (in which she indulged with many married men to chagrin of their wives) and very strong advocate of a woman's right to abortion. The rancid old cnut had very moralistic personal views on homosexuality, however she did not believe that it should be the subject of discriminatory laws (gee, thanks).

She was a Russian immigrant, hence her perhaps understandable antipathy to statism but she assisted and promoted much of the McCarthyite with-hunting of supposed communists in positions of influence in the 1950s. In 1982 she died. Screaming, I hope.

I first heard of her back in school in the 1970s - from a Rush album sleeve (somebody else's, honest).

Never read it. Somebody in school had a copy but it had a really cheesy cover with a cartoon drawing just like in Dick and Jane books so that put me off anyway.. It was only years later that I discovered what a noxious creature she was.

Don't you think that she was / is an odd choice for poster girl for GOP philosophy?

Seems Ryan is worried too...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...bf48_blog.html

I always thought the philosophy and the persona always outweighed the artistic work. And a very strange choice to be lauded by Republicans.

EDIT - Were you never told that you should never judge a book by its cover...?

Clint Eastwood has made a 'speech' at the convention... it's probably on You Tube already, but the transcript is the best way to follow it:

Strange indeed cause Rand's ideolog is anti-Christian but the GOP likes to portray itself as the pro Christian party . Ofcourse not really surprising or strange as the GOP's embraces social Darwinism.

Speech? That was a slightly bizarre ramble. Scub that; not slightly, completely bizarre.

He's not a politician so why expect a normal political speech?

Let the man go nuts. He's a genius.
