Re: Timmy - Wife kicked out of MQs
OK, let me think. One of his buddies should have thrown himself onto that last 'live' bullfrog to save him from himself. Then there should have been a snatch squad of sober sailors whose task was to sweep the dance floor and escort everyone safely home, including anyone who looked vaguely military but was too pissed to able able to say the password without slurring it. Then in the morning once it was discovered that one of our boys was missing the captain should have instructed the entire crew to stand to and then go out and conduct a sweep of the entire area. Obviously telling any local policemen etc. who may enquire as to what was going on to mind their own business.

Again, if you read the post properly, I listed things that have been admitted to being done badly.
This is pointless really. You're a know-it-all just saying that everything I've put is completely wrong when most of it is opinion.
What do you want me to say?
The RN did everything it could to help find that chap. They, of course, have to follow protocol and their planned operations but what they did in the days they had alongside before leaving was exceptional. They reported everything properly and immediately. They were absolutely brilliant.

I want you to state what you believe should have been done, given the constraints on HM Forces which have been pointed out to you. Oh and I'm not a know it all, I just happened to have served in HM forces for 25 years and have some idea of what I'm talking about.

Now, before you tell me they aren't allowed to go looking for him because it's not their jurisdiction...did the Dubai Police stop his Dad / Uncle (?) the copper from coming out here and wandering around giving out posters etc. Would a group of 5 or 6 guys in plain clothes wandering around the next day trying to find out what happened have resulted in arrests all round and a declaration of war?

As many of you will recall a married man serving on HMS Westminster disappeared after a night out in Dubai in May of this year. The ship returned to the UK, without the lad in August:
BBC News - Timmy MacColl: HMS Westminster returns to Portsmouth
his wife and three kids have been kicked out of married quarters.
If this is true it is horrific and despicable action by the Mod/Navy and I cannot believe that the press have not picked up on it.
It has not even been 6 months since he disappeared and only several weeks since the ship returned.
I have editied this down since a lot of military banter as well.
More on this and other people views can be found on this site.

The "notice of eviction" is an emotive term for an essential instrument to justify immediate entitlement to civilian social housing and benefits in the location chosen by the bereaved family. They can now stay in MQs for two years or more if that is their choice, but when they wish to move they require the eviction notice.
By giving them notice to quit it then enables them to apply of housing..the council will not give anybody housing if they have vacated a property without an eviction order.
For all we know she may have asked them to evict her so that she can then move home to be near her family.

I'm not even 25 years old and have no idea what I'm talking about but I think it would have been a bit better if the RN had looked for him, tried and find him....maybe even followed procedure and reported him missing immediately.

Ah, what is technically knows as 'spying' and the diplomatic repercussions of which would be absolutely enormous.

I am not familiar with the naval procedure but this wouldn't be an unusual event, Commander could enlighten us.
I'm sure they could have stopped civilians if they wanted to.

Slippery shoulders, no?
RN have no duty of care? No responsibility to look after their employees (i appreciate that's easier said than done)? No responsibility to do what they can to give the appropriate (FCO) authorities the best chance of solving an issue?

I have explained as best I can that members of HM Forces are not civilians and cannot act like civilians can in foreign countries. So like whatever dude.

Scamp, everyone shares your frustration at the fact this guy is still AWOL/MIA and nobody (apart from the odd complete ****wit) doesn't want this guy to turn up with a foot long beard and a severe case of amnesia.
Mikewot is simply stating (with 25 years hands-on military experience) that there is - and has to be for a million reasons - a diplomatic line to toe and gung-hoe search parties by the SBS would have ruffled feathers with potential diplomatic repurcussions.
As much as we all gag on a very frequent basis at the pandering & pussy-footing that has to be done in this region, its neccessary until the oil wells dry up and we all move over to Sudan or Greenland or wherever the next great oil-strike occurs...
