It is quite amazing that a small island has had so much of an influence on the world.

It is such a shame that people now equate patriotism with vile organisations like the BNP. Patriotism isn't xenophobia.

Being English is about humour, tolerance, fortitude, stoicism, adventurousness, fairness and getting things done.

And the people,

Winston Churchill, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Charles Darwin, Dickens, William Shakespeare, Sir Isaac Newton, Horatio Nelson, Bernard Montgomery, John Churchill, James Cook, William Wilberforce - I could write this list all day (I hope they are all English - Still I embrace the UK to include any of these)

That's his opinion but I completely disagree. I'm hugely proud to be English.

This is true but I would tend to think more about the bad things such as slavery and empire .

Thats a moronic comment. Slavery had been around since the ancient Egyptians - Used by Romans, any large country/civilisation was involved for over thousands of years - Some are still enslaving now...............

Britain stopped slavery as a wholesale business and then made sure it didn't return, so instead of being proud that we stopped it you think about the part played. Strange way of thinking.................
