Ok - I was being a bit contrary - however a lot of long distance races do involve "team tactics" and / or pace setters. In a similar way to TDF teams rotate leaders to push or control the pace while setting up their potential tour leader and / or sprint specialist...

And I'm not taking anything away from Wiggins or Farah by saying this. They are both sporting greats.

Pace setters are usually ONLY used in athletic meets where a specific athlete is going for a world record, it's to keep the pace up to the schedule without exposing the aspiring record holder to having to lead and set the pace, the pace setter usually drops out a few laps before the end. The Olympics is about individuals, excepting team events of course.
