Ok, back on topic.

Who put the music on the you-tube video?

A colleague who gets news updates to his phone from the Al Jadeed news channel in Lebanon has just got one claiming that a senior UAE government source has revealed a previous attempted murder of an American (a doctor) by the "Al Reem Ghost". If correct, this suggests they know who they're looking for. Or at the least, they're linking one thing with another.

The Al Jadeed website is all in Arabic, so I can't confirm if they're running with any further details yet. My colleague looked it over for me and couldn't see anything.

They have arrested a 38 year old Emirati female who was planting a bomb at an American doctors house. The police have said that victims were picked due to skin colour and nationality...

Was in Gulf News just now

I am not a great believer in conspiracy theories, but I wouldn't believe a word of what a GCC government says, particularly when it is dealing with stuff that could potentially hurt them.

Maybe the UAE government is the first interested to show that this is just a "mental person" with a funny nickname ("Al Reem ghost") and not part of a trend or anything related to ISIS or Islamic terrorism. Much easier to sell to the expat community and the tourism industry. At the end of the day, you have psychos everywhere, even in Norway. They can even capture some dissident or someone from a 3rd world country (who cares in UAE) and expats will be happy with the Abu Dhabi police.

However the US Embassy note is very clarifying IMO. Which are the chances that a random victim would be a US-citizen teacher?

PD: Irishbeekeeper has some very good points.

Lebanese newspaper is reporting that the UAE authorities have made an arrest and that the suspect also planted a bomb outside an American doctor's house.

Certainly looks very much like a deliberate anti Western killing.

The fact that they've arrested Emiratis would suggest that they're serious about this. If they were just trying to pin it on somebody for the sake of appearances, they'd've gone for a different nationality, surely?

Reality check: the UAE is not a democracy; and the "ruler" does have in high esteem those of his fellow citizens that do not agree with him:

It serves a domestic agenda to arrest and throw the book at an emirati extremist.

They'll send a clear message that extremism here will not be tolerated.

Look at recent events, the arrest, detainment and striping of nationality of alleged Muslim brotherhood sympathisers. The banning of 90 odd groups and national service for all.

National service is an interesting one as once completed people will still be in the reserves and therefore subject to military and not civilian law. Very handy way of holding private trials with brutal sentences that will go unnoticed in the west.

I'm suspicious of this arrest due to the speed but then again it's a police state with so many secret services that it wouldn't actually surprise me if it was genuine. Given the embassy warning they may even have known who to look for immediately.

The video and music are straight out of a dystopian film though. I wonder if they know 1984 etc weren't actually guides to what to do

Apparently the victim was the mother of 11 year old twins. Tragic to lose your parent in such a way.

Exactly what I thought. Seems a big step, also the fact she appears to have been a female is a big shock.
