Among things banned were jokes about lavatories, effeminacy in men, immorality of any kind, suggestive references to honeymoon couples, chambermaids, fig leaves, ladies underwear (e.g. ‘winter draws on’), lodgers and commercial travellers and the vulgar use of words such as ‘basket’
