no idea, but have you seen the road through the springs? Jesus - I wouldn't want to live there.

it was so nice before they tore it all up - really leafy and shaded... really lovely.

Same story really with the road beside JBR that's been massacred to make way for the tram. There used to be trees in the central reservation and then slip roads with guest parking to access JBR car parks - and it worked! But no, they ripped it all up and we've had 2 years of road works with no work being done. Saying that, they do appear to be doing something very slowly on the SZR side. I think we'll be long gone before they start figuring out how to get it over the bridge!

Remember the building that was going to look like a bloke in dish dasha? That was shelved quickly. And the one that was to replace the Mina Seyahi conference centre designed to look like a big donut?

We were really considering buying in The Lagoons when it was announced...

*dodged a bullet there*

*however got clipped by a Bulgarian offplan bullet instead - 4 years later we are still suing the developers there for our deposit on the apartment that never was*

I always enjoyed look at the plans of anything SAMA Dubai had to do with.

Even more, I enjoyed looking at the profiles of the people that fell out of that shambles.

We did a lot of work on the Lagoons a few years ago , there was a proposed 120 towers to go up on that project.........

I was working for Sama (via my consultancy) back in 06/07 on a project in Doha, and remember seeing the designs for the flame-like buildings in their offices. The scale of everything was astonishing. I remember driving along the Emirates road past hoardings covered in pictures of things like Barwa and Falcon City of Wonders. Crazy days!

Remember all the hoardings for Bawadi, on the road past ranches towards Bab al Shams?

A mystery why no one wanted 20 hotels up there... ;)

It's a pity that the former Group Treasurer of a well-known Dubai government entity isn't a member of The Bored. He'd be able to give us some spine-chilling insights into all of this........... ;)

rofl! I used to see stuff like that from first year architectural degree students - forget about the realms of physical possibility, what's the wackiest idea you can come up with?!

There's still some hoarding right out in the sticks... got a couple of model dinosaurs peeking out over the top. Strange, strange place.
