He seems like such a nice guy and am delighted that he got both golds. He's absolutely British as far as I am concerned too.

EDIT> BBC Sports Personality of the Year should be irrelevant this year...

Edited that for you.................

He won fair and straight forward, no Question. I was just enjoying the fact that he choose to travel so far for a better chance of winning. Please note the silver medal winner in the 10,000 meter was a good friend of his from Oregon, Rupp. Well done Mo!

Altitude training has always been a key element of the preparation of distance runners......... also, note another significant factor: the decision by Kenyan education officials to build primary schools exactly 26 miles and 385 yards from the nearest village...........

As I said to Milhouse, altitude does not apply in this instance. Here the primary distance from the Nike world headquarters most likely was a factor. That and the U Of Oregon is the premier track college in the US where top athletes from many nations train.

I think that Rupp's medal in the 10k was a surprise bonus. Did you see him screaming "Mo!" as he crossed the line? He did his bit in the 5k also by blocking at Mo's shoulder just as they went into the last km and Mo was about to take off. In both races, anyway, the Ethiopians and Kenyans seemed so intent on cancelling each other out with daft tactics that they handed it to Farah. Almost like they were following a script...

correct, there is absolutely no way he could perform to that level without correct pre race nutrition.

It's that magic ingredient for British success............ Preparation? Training programme? Dedication? Correct nutrition and dietary regime? Coaching? No....................... it's your date of birth:

Sir Roger Bannister, Jason Kenny, Sir Steve Redgrave, Sir Chris Hoy and Mo Farah all share the same birthday........... March 23rd.

Together with Akira Kurosawa, Chaka Khan, John Waybe Bobbitt and Carl Pickens. Must admit the sporting bunch is a weird coincidence.

Thanks. A fact you may not be aware of is he trains and lives with his family in Portland Oregon which does happen to be thousands of miles from the UK. That is where the misunderstanding arose. good day:)

He most likely did, He was quoted in the local paper as saying he had nothing left for the final sprint. Galen Rupp.;)

It's miles from Uk but Oregon has a fall(yes?) and the autumn leaves just might help.

He's not that wrong. Farah is coached by the great Cuban-American runner, Alberto Salazar who runs Nike's Oregon Project part of which involves the athletes living in a specially modified house with air thinning technology, designed to mimic high altitude conditions.

Can we keep the thread going, but cancel the closing ceremony instead? Oh...... too late............ Russell Brand??? Oh please......... the whole thing was a serious let-down to wrap up a wonderful Games....... did anyone here actually think it was good?

Saw the beginning and thought it was chaotic (in a bad way) and I couldn't heare the singers. My boys said that probably everybody in the audience could hear ok, but considering there was a billion or more people tuning in that wasn't the point. Thankfully didn't see Russell Brand. WTF was the Churchill bit about? Should've had Tom Jones, Always Look On The Bright Side of Life, Spice Girls, The Who, Adele and Cathrine Jenkins, for no longer than an hour.

Given the cocktail of alcohol, drugs, kids and late nights, I can imagine that with the exception of sporty there would be more cellulite on those girls than at a typical Dubai brunch. *shudders*

Although, I have always liked Mel B... until she opens her mouth that is.

Thought it was a let down compared to the opening ceremony - liked Jessie J, Tinie Tempah, Taio Cruiz, Take that, George Michael and the Spice girls. Thought it was an insult to British fashion design to include V Beckham as a british fashion designer though!

The fashion models were a total waste of time. For the last two weeks we have had some fabulous female role models on our screen and someone thought that dragging out these anorexic, coke-guzzling, vacuous divas was appropriate?

No. I hate lousy role models that are held up to be icons. The female athletes are the role models that you should want for young women. They have worked hard to get where they are on their merit and talents. Too often the media shows such a warped vision of women that it is no wonder so many young women, and older ones too, have body issues and strange ideas of how to get on in life.

Who would you want your daughter to aspire to be like, Jessica Ennis or someone like Katie Price?
